5 Standouts from Bucs vs. Bengals

Posted Aug 11, 2017

A few players who impressed in the Buccaneers' preseason matchup with the Bengals.

1. QB Jameis Winston
Winston put together a strong performance during the two drives he played on Friday. He finished the day completing nine of 13 passes for 99 yards. It’s worth noting, though, that two of his four incompletions were drops – one by Adam Humphries and another by Mike Evans. Winston led a 14-play, 92-yard drive to start the game. The Buccaneers would add three points at the end of that drive when Roberto Aguayo connected on a 20-yard field goal.

2. CB Vernon Hargreaves
Hargreaves recorded one of the top highlights of the game, picking off Andy Dalton on the one-yard line in the first half. Cincinnati was driving deep into Buccaneer territory, but Hargreaves was able to drag his feet to stay in bounds and recorded the interception on the sideline.

3. WR Mike Evans
Evans was Winston’s go-to target on the Buccaneers’ opening drive, catching three passes for 52 yards. Winston and Evans connected one more time, bringing Evans’ total to four catches for 58 yards. He was targeted seven times and had a long of 29.

4. K Nick Folk
The Buccaneers are still sorting out the pecking order at kicker, and Folk could have made up some serious ground against the Bengals. Aguayo was one-for-two and missed and extra point while Folk connected on his only attempt - a 45-yard field goal. Aguayo entered the game ahead of Folk on the depth chart.

5. WR Bernard Reedy
The Buccaneers are deep at wide receiver, so players battling for one of those final roster spots will have to earn their stay through their work on special teams, in addition to on offense. Reedy is a contender for the job as the Bucs' return man and brought a punt back 22 yards. He also returned a kick 18 yards and caught two passes for 18 yards.
