5 Standouts from Training Camp, August 15

Posted Aug 15, 2017

A few players who impressed during the Buccaneers' training camp practice with the Jaguars on Tuesday.

1. WR Mike Evans
Several Buccaneers put together impressive performances on Tuesday in Jacksonville, but Evans’ effort was a step above the rest. He earned the highlight of the day, catching a touchdown pass with one hand over Tyler Patmon during one-on-one drills. Evans found the end zone again during one-on-ones, with his second score coming at the expense of Dwayne Thomas. Evans’ performance didn’t stop there, either. He caught back-to-back passes to start team drills later in practice.

2. C Joe Hawley
The Buccaneers have several capable interior offensive linemen, a luxury few teams enjoy. Hawley is currently listed as the backup center and can also play guard, but to earn a jersey on game day he will have to beat out Evan Smith. Both Smith and Hawley have started for the Buccaneers. Hawley put together a well-rounded practice, including a few strong reps during one-on-one pass-rush drills.

3. LB Cameron Lynch
The Buccaneers are still searching for their starting strong side outside linebacker, and Lynch entered the conversation on Tuesday. Devante Bond had been the Bucs’ starter, but has missed the past two days of practice with an injury. Rookie Kendell Beckwith stepped in with the starters on Monday, but Lynch took some first-team reps on Tuesday.

4. DT Clinton McDonald

McDonald is to the Buccaneers’ defense what Hawley is to the team’s offense. He isn’t penciled in to start, but provides valuable depth and flexibility for an ever-changing defensive front. A former team captain, McDonald performed well during one-on-ones. He had a particularly impressive rep working against A.J. Cann.

5. CB Jonathan Moxey
Following the Buccaneers’ practice on Tuesday, Head Coach Dirk Koetter singled Moxey out as a player who he’s been impressed with. “So far, Moxey has made a couple plays,” Koetter said about his undrafted rookie. “He had an interception yesterday (and) made a nice play on special teams in the game the other day.” Koetter said he was also impressed with fellow rookie corner Maurice Fleming.
