5 Standouts from the Combine, March 5

Posted Mar 5, 2017

A few players who impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday - presented by Florida Hospital.

1. LB Jabrill Peppers
Peppers played an array of positions in college and will work out with both the linebackers and defensive backs at the Combine, with many analysts projecting him to play safety in the NFL. His times will likely stack up with the best at either position. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds, by far the fastest of any linebacker at the Combine, and was tied with T.J. Watt with the furthest distance in the broad jump.

2. DL Myles Garrett
Many believed Garrett could be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft in April and the former Texas A&M pass-rusher didn’t do anything to hurt his stock with his performance on Sunday. He ran the 40 in 4.64 seconds, the sixth-best among defensive linemen, and had a vertical jump of 41 inches, the highest of any player at this position. Garrett was also tied for No. 2 among defensive linemen in the broad jump with a distance of 128 inches.

3. DL Carl Lawson
Through three days of workouts, no player has recorded more reps on the bench press than Lawson. The former Auburn defensive lineman benched 225 pounds 35 times, tied for the most at the Combine thus far. With defensive backs set to take the field on Monday, his record will likely stand. Offensive lineman Isaac Asiata also recorded 35 reps earlier in the week.

4. LB Tyus Bowser
Bowser was among the top performers in most of the events he participated in. With a vertical jump of 37.5 inches, Bowser led all linebackers at the Combine. He was also No. 3 among players at his position in the broad jump and No. 5 in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.65 seconds.

5. DL Haason Reddick
With a 40-yard dash of 4.52 seconds, Reddick was the fastest defensive lineman at the Combine. He was one of three defensive linemen to finish the 40 in less than 4.6 seconds. Reddick also led all players at his position in the broad jump and was No. 3 in the vertical jump.
