Bucs Reduce Roster to 75

Posted Aug 27, 2013

Completing a process that began on Monday, the Buccaneers met the new NFL roster limit of 75 players on Tuesday by waiving/injured LB Jacob Cutrera, releasing veteran TE Zach Miller and waiving five others

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived/injured LB Jacob Cutrera and trimmed six other players from the roster on Tuesday in order to comply with the latest NFL limit.  All teams were required to reduce their rosters to 75 active players by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday; on Saturday, the second round of cuts will get teams down to the regular-season limit of 53.

The Buccaneers had begun the process on Monday with a series of moves that left them with 82 active players.  In addition to the waiver of Cutrera, the team got to the limit by releasing veteran tight end Zach Miller and waiving the following five players: wide receiver Terriun Crump, wide receiver Chris Denton, tight end Mike Shanahan, guard Adam Smith and cornerback Branden Smith.

If Cutrera clears waivers by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, he will revert to the Buccaneers' injured reserve list.

Denton, Adam Smith and Branden Smith are all undrafted rookies who signed with the Buccaneers this offseason.  Shanahan also entered the league as an undrafted free agent this spring, though he began with the New York Jets and only joined the Buccaneers on Monday.  Crump was in his second NFL training camp after working with the Chicago Bears last summer.  Miller, the only vested veteran in that group, spent most of three seasons (2010-12) with the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Buccaneers in January.
