Bucs Release Nick Folk

Posted Feb 22, 2018

Nick Folk, who held the Buccaneers' placekicker job for the first four games of the 2017 season, has been released after spending most of the season on injured reserve

On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released kicker Nick Folk, who had spent the last three months of the 2017 season on injured reserve.

Folk was the Buccaneers' kicker to begin the 2017 season before being replaced by Patrick Murray. After making six of 11 field goals and seven of nine extra point attempts over four games, he was placed on injured reserve on October 7. During an 11-year career with the Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets, Folk has hit on 245 of his 305 field goal tries and 342 of his 346 PATs.

The NFL's new league year is set to begin on March 14, along with the start of unrestricted free agency. In advance of that free agency period, the Buccaneers have released three players from their 2017 roster this week: Folk, running back Doug Martin and defensive tackle Chris Baker.
