Fight Hunger with Brad Culpepper

Posted Jan 19, 2014

Former Buc Brad Culpepper will be the team’s representative at the “Kick Hunger Happy Hour” event next Friday at Mise En Place, an event open to the public and aimed at combating hunger in America

Brad and Monica Culpepper had some hungry days as contestants on the most recent season of the hit TV show Survivor, but they knew at the time that their struggles were temporary.  That is not the case for millions of Americans who battle hunger and homelessness, issues the National Football League has been tackling since 1992 with its “Taste of the NFL” program.

Now the Culpeppers are teaming up with the NFL to bring the fight against hunger to Tampa.  Next Friday, January 24, Brad Culpepper will represent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the “Kick Hunger Happy Hour” event at Mise En Place in downtown Tampa.  The event is open to the public and requires a minimum donation of $20 to fight hunger and take part in the Taste of the NFL Cocktail, Wines and Blitz Bar Cuisine.

Culpepper played for the Buccaneers from 1994-99, amassing 33 sacks, which ranks sixth in franchise history.  He helped the franchise rebound from a decade-and-a-half of losing to make the playoffs in 1997 and 1999, advancing to the NFC Championship Game in ’99.  Now a lawyer in the Bay area, Culpepper played nine total seasons in the NFL, recording 34 sacks, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Brad and Monica Culpepper appeared on the recent “Blood vs. Water” season of Survivor, with Monica finishing as the runner-up to winner Tyson Apostol.

The Taste of the NFL has generated donations of more than $14 million, with proceeds supporting hunger relief efforts across the country.

Since 1992, the Taste of the NFL (a 501c3 organization) has rallied the country's top chefs and the NFL's greatest to raise money in support of food banks throughout the United States. Their goal is to help feed the roughly 37 million Americans who struggle with hunger and homelessness.  Each year, net proceeds from the Taste of the NFL's Super Bowl event are donated to Feeding America-affiliated food banks in each of the NFL cities with an emphasis on the Super Bowl host city's food bank.
