Ingersoll Returns as Bucs Tweak Camp Roster

Posted Jun 22, 2012

The Buccaneers made a pair of roster moves on Friday, re-signing first-year T Mike Ingersoll and waiving rookie linebacker Antonio Leak

There are no more practices before the start of training camp, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' camp roster has been finalized.

On Friday, the Buccaneers made a pair of small changes to that 90-man roster, adding a little offensive line depth in the process.  The team announced the re-signing of first-year tackle Mike Ingersoll and, to make room on the roster, the waiver of rookie linebacker Antonio Leak.

The 6-5, 300-pound Ingersoll first joined the Buccaneers last December, spending the last three weeks of the 2011 season on the team's practice squad.  He also has several months of work in the new offense imported by Head Coach Greg Schiano and Offensive Coordinator Mike Sullivan, having spent much of the 2012 offseason in Tampa.  Ingersoll was re-signed by the Buccaneers immediately after the end of last season (all practice squad contracts automatically expire after a team's final game) and was later released on May 17 when the team signed wide receivers Ahmard Lewis and Wallace Wright.

Ingersoll didn't stay on the free agent list long; he was picked up by New England on June 8 and spent almost two weeks with the Patriots before being waived earlier this week.  The Buccaneers chose to bring him back shortly after he cleared waivers.

Ingersoll's NFL career began a little over a year ago, when he was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina.  He remained with the Chiefs through the preseason but was released in early September.  His next stop was Tampa in December.

At North Carolina, Ingersoll started out as a tight end but moved to the offensive line in 2009.  He ended up playing 45 games over four seasons for the Tar Heels, starting 25 of them at right tackle over his final two campaigns.  Ingersoll hails from Mint Hill, North Carolina.

The Buccaneers signed Leak on May 7 as an undrafted free agent.  The Henderson State product had participated in the team's rookie mini-camp on a tryout contract the week before and had earned a spot on the offseason roster with a fine performance.

The Buccaneers can take up to 90 players to training camp, all of whom must have signed contracts to participate.  The team currently has all 90 spots filled, with only first-round draft pick Mark Barron still to sign.
