McCoy, David Among PFF's Top Performers

Posted Sep 19, 2017

The Buccaneers picked up a win in Week 2 thanks largely to the performance of defensive standouts Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David.

After a convincing victory over the Bears, it shouldn’t be surprising that several Buccaneers earned high grades for their performances in Week 2. According to Pro Football Focus, right tackle Demar Dotson was the team’s best player, earning an overall grade of 91. Linebacker Lavonte David (90) and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (89.6) rounded out the top three.

On 27 pass rush snaps, McCoy earned seven quarterback pressures. He was also stout against the run, picking up a stop on 11 run plays. Behind him, the Buccaneers allowed Chicago to rush for just 20 yards.

“Just another seven pressure performance for McCoy to start the season,” PFF wrote. “The Bears were forced to roll five players through their interior offensive line due to injuries at both guard spots and McCoy bested most of them at some point during the game. His seven pressures were his most since the Bucs’ Week 12 win over the Seahawks last year and Tampa fans will hope this can be part of five game winning streak as that display was.”

Despite McCoy’s dominant performance, PFF gave David their game ball. David, regarded as one of the NFL’s top linebackers in coverage, allowed just 18 yards on six targets. To read PFF’s full analysis from the Buccaneers’ win over Chicago, click HERE.
