Only Six Bucs Stay in Tampa

Posted Aug 13, 2010

Tampa Bay’s light injury report in training camp means the team took 74 players to Miami on Friday

After a brief walk-through on the practice field Friday morning, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers flew out of Tampa in the afternoon en route to South Florida, where they will play the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night. The 2010 preseason opener for both teams is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Out of a possible 80 players on the training camp roster, the Buccaneers took 74 of them to Miami, as the first two weeks of training camp have been pleasingly light on injuries. Of the six players who were left in Tampa for additional treatment time, none are considered long-term concerns and one was not even injury-related.

The six players who did not travel with the Buccaneers on Friday were cornerbacks Myron Lewis and Aqib Talib, safety De'von Hall, defensive tackle Brian Price, running back Clifton Smith and tight end Kellen Winslow. That list includes two members of the Bucs' 2010 draft class - Lewis and Price - and two players who are currently listed as starters on the depth chart - Talib and Winslow.

Talib did not miss the trip due to injury. He was excused to attend to a family matter.

Teams are not required to name inactives during preseason games, so up to 75 Buccaneers could play in Saturday night's game. Head Coach Raheem Morris did not indicate any other players who would definitely be held out of the game; it appears as if starting middle linebacker Barrett Ruud will play.
