T Remmers Added to Practice Squad

Posted Sep 11, 2012

One spot on the Buccaneers' eight-man practice squad was shuffled on Tuesday as rookie T Mike Remmers joined that crew, replacing T Bradley Sowell

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Tuesday that they have signed rookie tackle Mike Remmers to the practice squad.  Remmers takes the spot vacated by rookie tackle Bradley Sowell, who was signed off that crew to the Indianapolis Colts' active roster.

The 6-5, 303-pound Remmers originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos in May.  He attended training camp with the Broncos and appeared in one preseason game before being waived on August 27.

Originally a walk-on at Oregon State, Remmers quickly ascended to starter status.  He started 44 games during his four years with the Beavers, including 37 in a row to finish his collegiate career, and was a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy as a senior.  The Burlsworth award is given each season to the nation's top player who began his career as a walk-on.

The 23-year-old Remmers hails from Portland, Oregon.

Sowell also entered the league as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Buccaneers on May 4.  He was initially retained on Tampa Bay's 53-man roster after the cutdown to the regular-season limit on August 31, but was waived the next day and subsequently signed to the practice squad.
