Bucs Support 'Moving Day Tampa Bay' in Fight Against Parkinson's

Posted Mar 17, 2017

The National Parkinson Foundation is putting on Moving Day® on April 1 to fight against Parkinson's disease. The Buccaneers are taking part, and so can Buccaneer fans.

Bay area residents who want to join the fight against Parkinson's disease, here's a chance to make your  move.

On Saturday, April 1, the National Parkinson Foundation will host Moving Day® Tampa Bay – a Walk for Parkinson's at the University of South Florida. Moving Day® is an annual fundraising and awareness event in the Foundation's ongoing fight against Parkinson's disease, which affects approximately one million Americans and their families. The event emphasizes the idea of "movement" and exercise, which plays an essential role in treating Parkinson's disease. Event attendees will be able to take part in such activities as yoga, dance and tai chi, which have been shown to help manage Parkinson's symptoms.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have pledged their support to the search for a cure for Parkinson's disease through both donations and the effort to get people in motion at the Moving Day® event. In addition to donations of $5,000 and a Club Seat ticket package for the event's auction, the team is bringing the Bucs Squad Experience so young attendees can get moving, too.

“The Buccaneers are excited to join the National Parkinson’s Foundation and the Tampa Bay community for Moving Day® Tampa Bay,” said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. “We are committed to helping fight Parkinson's disease through initiatives such as this that raise awareness and much-needed funding while also encouraging increased physical activity."

The National Parkinson Foundation uses Moving Day® to raise critical funds for research, to raise awareness about the disease and to unite communities in the fight against it. It includes a "Walk for Parkinson's" but is also highlighted by the Movement Pavilion and its multitude of stations offering different manners of exercise and activity. Bay area residents who want to get involved can register a team for the Walk at www.movingdaytampabay.org.
