Glennon Named November's Top Rookie

Posted Nov 27, 2013

After leading the entire NFL with a passer rating of 119.7 during the four weeks of November, the Bucs' Mike Glennon has been named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month

  • QB Mike Glennon won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month honors with a 119.7 passer rating in November
  • Glennon is just the second quarterback in Bucs history to win that award
  • Glennon led the Buccaneers to three victories and an overtime near-miss in Seattle in November
By at least one measure, Mike Glennon was the most efficient passer in the entire NFL over the last month.  Glennon played like a seasoned veteran, and that was enough to earn the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback recognition as the league's most outstanding offense rookie for November.

On Wednesday, the league announced that Glennon has been named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November.  He is the first Buccaneer to win that award since running back Doug Martin in October of 2012, and the first Tampa Bay quarterback to take the honor since Shaun King in December of 1999.

Glennon was masterful in leading the Buccaneers to a 3-1 record in November, with the only loss an overtime defeat on the road to Seattle, owners of the best record in the NFL.  In those four games, Glennon completed 62 of 88 passes (70.5%) for 785 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception.  That performance produces a 119.7 passer rating that is not only remarkable for a rookie with just four previous starts under his belt but also the best mark by any player in the NFL during that span, newcomer or veteran (minimum of 80 attempts).

Glennon also led the NFL during the month of November in touchdown percentage (8.0%) and yards per pass attempt (8.92) while ranking second in completion percentage and seventh in interception percentage (1.1%).  Glennon, the third quarterback selected in the 2013 NFL Draft, following the Buffalo Bills' E.J. Manuel and the New York Jets' Geno Smith, is the first QB to win the Rookie of the Month award this season.  The honor went to Houston wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in September and Green Bay running back Eddie Lacy in October.

-- QB Mike Glennon led the Bucs to their third straight victory Sunday in Detroit
After the narrow loss in Seattle, Glennon led the Buccaneers to a victory over Miami in Week 10 in his first exposure to Monday Night Football.  Wins over Atlanta and Detroit followed, with Glennon posting a 137.5 passer rating in the former game and a 138.4 rating in the latter.  Those stand as the two highest single-game ratings by a rookie in team history and the sixth and seventh-best by an NFL rookie since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.  Glennon is the first quarterback of any level of experience to record two consecutive games with a passer rating north of 130 in franchise annals.

Glennon has also been nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week, which is determined by fan voting on NFL.com.  Click here to cast your ballot; voting continues through Friday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
