2nd NFL Season, 2nd with Buccaneers
Kevin Luhrs enters his second season as the team nutritionist with the Buccaneers in 2011. As a Registered and Licensed Dietitian, along with Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification, his duties include the coordination of all meals and snacks for all players. In addition, Luhrs does one-on-one diet counseling with both players and staff members and is heavily involved in player rehydration and weight management programs.
His secondary duties involve being an assistant strength and conditioning coach under the direction of Head Strength and Condition Coach Kurtis Shultz.
Luhrs previously interned with the Baptist Health System in San Antonio, Texas where he worked with hospital patients on medical nutrition therapy, while also gaining experience with community programs and food service management. Luhrs also worked as a volunteer nutritionist at the University of Nebraska in 2009 where he assisted the director of sports nutrition with various tasks that included body composition, weekly news blogs and nutrient analysis projects.
Luhrs was a defensive lineman for the University of Nebraska from 2003-2007, during which time he was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll eight times. Luhrs also served as a student-coach for the Cornhuskers in 2007. He graduated with a degree in Education and Human Sciences with a concentration in Nutritional Science and Dietetics in December 2007.
Luhrs was born on September 29, 1984 in Omaha, Nebraska and currently resides in Tampa with his wife, Jacqueline.
