The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today agreed to terms with cornerback Jamel Dean. He will be available to media tomorrow, March 16, at the AdventHealth Training Center at approximately 10:30 a.m. ET.
Dean (6-1, 206) has appeared in 57 regular season games, making 38 starts, for the Buccaneers since the team selected him in the third round (No. 94 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over his four seasons with the Buccaneers, Davis has amassed 186 tackles, 41 passes defensed and seven interceptions (93 return yards, one return touchdown). He has also started six playoff games over the past three seasons, including Super Bowl LV, recording 30 tackles, four passes defensed and one forced fumble.
"It has been great seeing Jamel's growth as a player these past four seasons," said Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht. "Keeping him was a top priority for us and it worked out well that he also had a strong desire to stay here. Any time you draft a player who meets and exceeds your expectations, you want to do all you can to ensure he remains a part of the organization. Jamel is a special person who is highly respected throughout our building for his work on the field and in the community. We think he is only going to continue ascending as a football player and will continue to play a big role in our defensive success over the coming seasons."
Since entering the league in 2019, Dean is tied for the team lead in interceptions (seven) and ranks second in passes defensed (41). His 41 passes defensed rank first among all members of the 2019 NFL Draft class, while his seven interceptions rank tied for sixth during that span. In addition, Dean has five games with four-or-more passes defensed since 2019 – the most-such games by any player in the league during that time.
In 2022, Dean started all 15 regular season games in which he played for a defense that limited opponents to 6.67 net yards per attempt and 203.6 passing yards per game, which ranked sixth and ninth, respectively, in the NFL last season.
The Cocoa, Florida, native played collegiately at Auburn. He wears No. 35 for Tampa Bay.
