BUCCANEERS K RYAN SUCCOP NAMED NFC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The National Football League today announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Ryan Succop was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 8. This marks the sixth time that Succop has earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors, and the first time he has done so in the NFC. He becomes the fifth different Tampa Bay kicker to win the award and the first since 2016.

In a 25-23 win over the New York Giants in Week 8, Succop scored 13 of the team's 25 points, converting all four of his field-goal attempts. Despite battling adverse weather conditions at MetLife Stadium, Succop hit field goals of 37, 38, 40 and 43 yards, while also making his lone extra-point attempt, to finish the day without a miss. His four field goals made tied for the league lead in Week 8, while his 13 points scored tied for the second-most in the NFL.

On the season, Succop ranks tied for second in the NFL among kickers with 71 points on the season. His 71 points are the most by a Tampa Bay kicker through eight games in team history. The veteran has made 15-of-17 field goals this season (88.2 percent), including going a perfect 10-of-10 on field-goal attempts inside of 40 yards this season.

Among active kickers, Succop ranks seventh in field goals made (251) and points scored (1,117). His career 82.6 field-goal percentage ranks 20th in NFL history among kickers with at least 250 field goal attempts.

Succop is the fourth Buccaneers player to win a weekly award this season, joining Shaquil Barrett (Defensive, Week 3), Tom Brady (Offensive, Week 4) and Devin White (Defensive, Week 7). The four weekly awards are the team's most in a single season since 2008, when Rondé Barber, Derrick Brooks, Matt Bryant and Clifton Smith each earned weekly recognition.

Tampa Bay is off to a 6-2 start, matching the team's best record through eight games in franchise history (1979, 2002).
