The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today signed linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III to the active roster from the practice squad and placed cornerback Anthony Chesley on Injured Reserve.
Gilbert III (6-0, 230) was signed to Tampa Bay's practice squad on October 11, 2022. He was elevated for Weeks 10, 12 and 13, appearing on special teams. Gilbert originally entered the league as a sixth-round selection (No. 207 overall) of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent three seasons with the Steelers prior to being waived on August 19, 2022. In 31 career games played, Gilbert has recorded 25 special teams tackles and four defensive tackles. The Ocala, Florida, native played in every game of his four-year career at the University of Akron, earning first-team All-MAC honors twice. He wears No. 57 for Tampa Bay.
In addition, the Buccaneers signed cornerback Duron Lowe to the practice squad.
Lowe (5-10, 190) entered the league as a college free agent with the Los Angeles Rams on May 4, 2022, spending the 2022 offseason and training camp with the Rams. He began his collegiate career at Butler Community College (2017-18) prior to being named two-time All-Conference USA honorable mention in his two years at the University of Texas at El Paso (2019-20). He later transferred to Liberty, where he played his final season in 2021. Over his final three seasons, Lowe appeared in 31 games, amassing 74 tackles, 13 passes defensed, four interceptions and one forced fumble. The Overland Park, Kansas, native also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns during his collegiate career. He will wear No. 28 for Tampa Bay.
