Head Coach Bruce Arians

Quarterback Jameis Winston

Head Coach Bruce Arians

(On how Vita Vea could be a difference maker)

"Well, he can play three positions for sure. He can play five techniques, he can play three techniques and he can play nose [tackle]. For him I had to say, 'whoa', I hate to say 'sic 'em', but I like saying 'whoa', and for him just 'whoa, slow down right there, you don't need to be knocking guys back into the quarterback today.' He's a very, very talented young man and does lots of things."

(On what it was like being back on the practice field)

"I was excited. I sat in the golf cart so long I couldn't take it anymore and I had to start talking to guys, but it was a lot of fun – very excited.

(On how Jameis Winston did at camp today)

"It's amazing. He was getting to third and fourth reads quickly today. he was off his first read and it was not the easiest secondary to read. It was all a movement – quarters, single-high to man and I was extremely pleased with that part of it. I don't think the defense got their hands on any of his balls or Blaine [Gabbert's] balls.

(On if it helps to see the players practice before the draft)

"Oh, heck yeah. You think you've got something, but you're not really sure until you go out there - and again, we've been in the classroom watching trashcans moving around, it isn't the same as wide receivers going and coming up, and then you see these guys like, 'Oh, he can run.' He can learn. So those are the things you're really looking for."

(On if he's concerned by the lack of experience with his secondary)

"All these guys, three-year guys are vets now, so we've got young guys who are very talented and position flexibility is what I'm looking for and I think we have some of those, so if we had it – talent. Todd [Bowels] keeps it simple, he's a great teacher, so that's not going to be an issue."

(On if his previous relationship with General Manager Jason Licht will help with the NFL draft)

"Oh, a ton. It has with this whole process. It's been very easy for both of us, because we've done it together before and the respect factor is mutual, so it's very easy."

Quarterback Jameis Winston

(On the first day of voluntary mini-camp)

"It was exciting just to be out there on the field competing, that is what we do this for. Obviously, it's a tease because this ends shortly, but we've got three great days of tough work and we've got to make the most of it."

(On the practice atmosphere under Head Coach Bruce Arians)

"I love the atmosphere, but more importantly, I just love being out there with my guys. It's great to get back to competing and that's what it's all about."

(On this new offense being a good fit for him)

"Yeah, I think one of the best things about this system is they kind of structure it towards your quarterback's strengths, so I know we are going to be put in the best situation possible. It is going to be our jobs to go out there and execute it."

(On the additions of Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Maral Javadifar and Assistant Defensive Line Coach Lori Locust to the coaching staff)

"Coach Lori and MJ [Maral Javadifar], we feel their presence. They are doing their job. They are football coaches and they're excellent at their field so they are part of the family. We are all one big family and as everyone goes, they go, too. It is really no different. They are our coaches – we are going to respect them, we are going to go out there and win football games with them and we're going to celebrate with them in the locker room."

(On having quarterback Blaine Gabbert on the roster who has played in Arians' scheme before)

"I think it's just great having Blaine and having even [Offensive Coordinator] Byron [Leftwich]. Byron played in this offense, Coach Leftwich. So, having two guys that are familiar with the system makes it very easy to get a feel because you have two guys that are pretty good in this system."

(On Coach Arians' approach to practice)

"One thing about Coach B.A., you think he is sitting back in his golf cart, but he is communicating with his coaches. So, he just has that head roll, so he is communicating with everybody. He is letting his orchestra play, but he is orchestrating behind the scenes telling everybody his thoughts, communicating with the quarterbacks, communicating with K.G. – Kevin Garver [Wide Receivers Coach], communicating with Coach Byron. He runs the show even though everybody else, they're pulling the strings. They are the puppets – we're all on a string – but he is pulling it."

(On the challenge of playing five consecutive games away from Raymond James Stadium)

"We are going to play ball. Like I said, we get a great opportunity to go out there and showcase our ability. We don't care. It doesn't matter if we are in the Walmart parking lot. We've got to play, that is our job."
