Bucs-Texans Inactives: Donovan Smith Returns

Donovan Smith's starts streak ended at 77 last week but his inactive streak will end at one as he is back in action on Jameis Winston's blind side in Week 16

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans named their game-day inactives on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET, 90 minutes before kickoff of their Week 16 contest at Raymond James Stadium. NFL teams are required to reduce their active rosters to 46 players for each regular-season game.

Donovan Smith will be back to manning the left tackle position for Tampa Bay after his career-opening streak of 77 starts was snapped last week in Detroit. He and starting center Ryan Jensen were both questionable on the week's final injury report but both will be in action against the Texans.

However, the Bucs will be without their leading receiver, as Chris Godwin is inactive with a hamstring injury. The team also placed its other Pro Bowl receiver, Mike Evans, on injured reserve earlier in the week with the same ailment. Tight end Tanner Hudson is sidelined with a concussion, as well. The three new pass-catchers the Buccaneers signed this week – tight end Cody McElroy and wide receivers Cyril Grayson and Spencer Schnell – are all active and could all make their NFL debuts.

Cornerback Carlton Davis, who was questionable on the injury report after suffering an ankle injury in a midweek practice, has been cleared to play. However, the Bucs are without starting safety Jordan Whitehead, who was placed on injured reserve during the week with a hamstring injury of his own. Cornerback M.J. Stewart returns to active status in his place.

The Texans will be without one of their two starting inside linebackers, as Benardrick McKinney will see his streak of 62 straight starts snapped by a concussion. OLB Jacob Martin, who is tied for third on the team with 3.5 sacks, is also out due to a knee injury. However, all five players who were listed as questionable on Houston's injury report – including WR Will Fuller and RB Carlos Hyde – have been cleared to play.
