RB Jamel White has a target weight he wants to take into training camp, knowing some of the pounds will melt off in the Orlando heat

The program began in March and will conclude in June. Through most of April, returning tight end Dave Moore walked us through his weekly preparations; in May, newly-signed running back Jamel White will assume the task. Week of May 17-21
This week was a little different because we had three OTA days, and that works for me because I just like going out there and playing football. You get you're weight-lifting in during the morning, and it's not as long as it is during a normal week, and then you get out there on the field and run around. I just like football.
The first day of the week I had a little bit of a shaky performance, but that's alright. Everybody has one of those days every now and then. The way to deal with that it is to get it out of the way and then come back stronger, and I think I did that on Wednesday and Thursday. Plus, overall I think my understanding of the plays is a lot better now than it was during the last set of OTA days (in April). I've got a better feel for the offense now.
We still got four weight-room workouts in during the week, just like the other weeks. Gie (Strength and Conditioning Coach Garrett Giemont) does a good job of monitoring what you're doing, making sure you're doing the right amount of work at the right time. On a 'legs day,' for example, he makes sure you do your leg work after practice so you won't get too fatigued.
Still, I'm really tired by the afternoon. The coaches here get it all out of you. And this is a little different for me, coming from Cleveland where it's usually cold. You're getting used to the humidity and the heat out here. Being from California originally, I'm used to the heat but not the humidity. So it's taking me a little time to understand what I need to do for my body.
I get a little bit worried about dehydrating. When I first came into the NFL, they always worried about me because I didn't have a lot of body fat. I had to put on some more body fat and I've just maintained it since.
When I got here to Tampa, I weighed about 230 pounds, but I've lost weight, back down to almost 210. I don't look any different though, because I've been working out hard with Gie. The program is going well for me – I'm right where I need to be.
Everybody on the team has a target weight for training camp. You don't have to measure in every week, but it's good to take a little extra weight with you to training camp because, from what I understand it's really hot in Orlando. They have a set weight where they want you to be to start camp, and by the end of camp you're at the weight they really want you to be at.
At camp and even during some of these OTA days, the sun just takes it out of you. It's mostly water weight. Once you're out there for a little while, the sun just fatigues you and all your electrolytes go. It's just breaking your body down, and your job after that is just to make sure you get everything back.
Anyway, it's not too bad out here yet. Even if it was really hot, though, I would want to get out there on the field. I think I'm getting a much better understanding of the playbook, now, and that makes practice a lot better. I know I said the same thing last week, but my biggest gain this week has been getting better at understanding the playbook and such. The more I can understand that, that's the best gain I can make.
