TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS HOST LARGEST GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN THE NATION

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the largest girls flag football tournament in the nation beginning on Wednesday, February 26, at the AdventHealth Training Center. The round-robin style tournament will utilize all four practice fields at the Buccaneers training facility and will span four days, concluding on Saturday, February 29. Participants in the second annual Girls High School Flag Football Preseason Classic will have the opportunity to hear from Owner/President Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation and Glazer Family Foundation Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, Mayor Jane Castor and Women's Sports Foundation CEO Dr. Deborah Antoine prior to games starting on Friday, February 28, at 4:30 p.m.

This year's tournament is scheduled to nearly double in size from last season's inaugural event with a total of 57 high school teams representing 17 counties, including 25 teams from Hillsborough County and 11 from Pinellas County. Games will take place from 4:30-7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 2:00-7:15 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. The marquee "Friday Night Lights" matchup will showcase both the 2019 Class 1A and 2A state champions in Robinson High School and Alonso High School. In addition to food trucks being on site to serve dinner in-between games, both schools will have their bands in attendance. Saturday will wrap up the tournament with a full day of games. For a full list of schools participating in the preseason classic, see below.

Media is invited to attend on Friday, February 28, beginning at 4:00 p.m. for access to players and coaches. About the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation and Girls Flag Football

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation is committed to fostering girls' passion for football at an early age and providing an enhanced curriculum to participating flag football coaches. In 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation, in partnership with the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, established the Jr. Bucs Girl's Flag Football League as the first city-wide, all-girls flag football league in Tampa.

Through the Foundation, 24 local recreation centers have been outfitted with brand-new equipment, complete with Bucs flag belts. In addition, youth athletes and coaches have provided annual instruction led by industry experts and a chance to develop their craft through NFL-certified annual clinics and training opportunities at the Buccaneers' AdventHealth Training Center. The league is certified by NFL FLAG, the country's leading flag football program, and powered by USA Football, the sport's national governing body.
