TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 11-9-22

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On what the Seahawks do that makes them such an effective rushing team)

"They're blocking up front very well. They have two great runners – well, [Rashaad] Penny got hurt, but with [Kenneth] Walker they have a heck of a runner. He's got great vision, he was great in college [and] he's good now. The receivers can run the ball doing jet sweeps and everything. Then you've got the quarterback runs, so they spread it around pretty much. They always threaten you outside with speed, so you've got to play them honest."

(On if last week's performance provides additional confidence in the team's ability to stop the run)

"Confidence has never been an issue – it's about discipline. We've got to stay disciplined in our gaps."

(On the development of Seahawks QB Geno Smith since Bowles coached him in New York)

"It's a credit to his hard work. You've got to grow up in this league a little bit – everybody gets that chance. When I had him, he was a lot younger – he was a very good quarterback then. The maturity, as a backup, kind of sets in when you become an older quarterback. He runs the offense well, he knows what to do, he's comfortable in the system and [with] the guys around him. He's doing a [heck] of a job right now, so my hat is off to him."

(On Seattle having a tendency to pull away from opponents late in games)

"They play hard and they play smart. They play smart football and they play very hard. They play with each other [and] they play together. They're doing a heck of a job."

(On Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen)

"You saw the flashes in college – he's put it together his rookie year since he's come in the league. He's 6'4" – you don't usually get a 6'4" corner that runs a 4.29 or 4.27, whichever he ran. He got his hands on balls in college [and] he's getting his hands on balls now. He's a willing tackler, he's got very good footwork for a guy that tall. He's making plays – it's hard to throw over him."

(On if the team is accounting for the time change or just focusing on playing football)

"You try to adjust to it as best you can. We get over there, we try to catch up on our sleep on Friday and Saturday. We have sleep things and glasses and all that stuff for the plane. I guess everybody is going to be different. We just understand we have to kick off at that time, body-clock-wise, early in the morning. We've got to be ready to play Sunday."

(On following up about what type of items players are using to help with their sleep pattern leading up to the game)

"They give you sleep glasses during the week, where you can wear them for a couple of hours at night to help adjust to everything and try to get you a little tired and do all that stuff. We're working on all of that."

(On if it's more challenging to prepare for an international game like this)

"It's not – it's football, at the same time. You're going to play somebody else. The time change, the glasses and the sleep time – it would be no different than if we had to fly to Seattle. That's a long flight too. It would be maybe another hour more, at tops. The time change, you just have to deal with – we understand that going over [there]. We'll be excited to play, we'll be ready to play."

(On if RB Rachaad White is developing how the team had envisioned)

"His progress is good. He's ready to play any time we put him in there. Obviously, 'Lenny' [Fournette] is playing hard and he's playing [well] for us. When 'Lenny' gets a break and Rachaad comes in, he gets to show what he can do. I think it's a good combination."

(On if he plans to do exploring in Germany)

"For me, personally, probably not. I've never been there so I don't know what the experience will be like. I'll see what they have…we're going for a business trip – if I like it, I'll go back in the summer."

(On what is preventing the team from scoring more points)

"We've just got to execute better. Again, our job is to score one more point than the other team. They did that. You can play well and not score a bunch of points when you play good defenses. Running the football, catching the ball, having all the third downs we had…we're keeping their offense off the field, which is very explosive. Obviously, we want more points – we always want more points. That's going to be a year-long thing. I don't care if we score 27 – Byron [Leftwich] will probably tell you we should have had 40. It's going to be a year-long process that we're working on, but we're jelling and we're working out kinks still. We've just got to get them out quicker."

(On if he feels the offense is more successful when the team is going up-tempo)

"Sometimes when it's dependent on whether you're winning or losing, whether they take the brakes off the defense or not, or whether you put the brakes on on the offense or not, it's different depending on the situation of the game. You can have some up-tempo in-game that could work, you could have it [where] it can't work. With the game the way it was, going down to the end, up-tempo…we needed up-tempo, we didn't have any timeouts. That was important for us to get down and get a score. I've seen it work both ways."

(On his assessment of LT Donovan Smith's play this season)

"I don't think any of us are playing at the level we want everybody to play [at] or we'd be undefeated. He's got work to do, just like everybody else. It's easy to sit up here and point out what he gave up, but we don't point out what he did well – he does a lot of things well. He's our left tackle, we like him. We understand we can't have holding calls and we never want to give up sacks, but it happens here and there. We just need it to happen less frequently."

(On if he's learned anything from his two previous experiences with international games)

"Not really. We do the bulk of our work here, that's the main thing. When we get over there, we just have a Friday practice, so most of the hay is in the barn other than meetings and walk-through at the stadium, and getting a feel for the locker room where we've got to come through. Most of the work is done."

(On if S Antoine Winfield Jr. is out of concussion protocol)

"No, not yet, he isn't."

(On why there's been a lack of takeaways this season)

"We've missed some opportunities the past few weeks. We try to create them all the time – sometimes they take care of the ball. We've had chances the last two or three games where balls have bounced off our hands that we've got to come down with. They come in bunches, you've just got to keep at it."

(On if he would like to see more deep shots down the field)

"You'd like to see more but if they have it covered and they've got it blanketed, it's hard to just throw the ball up when you know it's going to get picked-off back there. We've got to be smart, too. We've been smart with the football – one of the good things we have done on offense is not turn the ball over. If the deep ball is not there, we know how to check it down and get it out of there. If the running game clicked a little better, we'd probably get more shots down field to suck people up some. Other than that, I'm happy with the shots we're trying to take – we just haven't had the opportunity to take them."

PASS GAME COORDINATOR/INSIDE LINEBACKERS COACH LARRY FOOTE

(On his experience playing a game overseas)

"I never played over there, I just coached twice – once with the Cardinals and a couple of years ago here. Long flight – looking forward to a longer flight this time. But, it's always been a good experience to get outside the country and experience something different."

(On how good it was to see the defense crack down in the fourth quarter of the Rams game)

"It was great. We've been stressing 'Finish 60 minutes,' and it was good to get guys back healthy on the field and guys played a complete game – [it] wasn't perfect but they definitely excelled. Especially in the red zone, making them kick field goals, and you guys know that made the difference."

(On how a win has changed the locker room)

"Even at home – with your kids, with your dogs, with your wife. Especially when expectations are so high, but you know, being around in this league, you know there's going to be some adversity that hits. You never want a three-game losing streak, but it was good to get a win and we [were] all giddy-up on Sunday, you come in on Monday and you see this film and how good the Seahawks are, so it's definitely short lived. [We're] ready for the next one."

(On how big of a boost it was to have cornerbacks Carlton Davis III and Sean Murphy-Bunting back in the lineup)

"Just the experience, you know. Those guys have played a lot of ball for us at a high level. It was good, [getting young guys] experience, but you want your vets, you want your guys that did it for you, and you know, this is a veteran league. But, it was good seeing those guys back and they did a good job for us – definitely tackling."

(On how close he thinks OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is to breaking out)

"I'm waiting on it. I keep telling him, 'Give me that break out game. Four sacks or something crazy – be player of the week.' But, he's playing hard, he's learning. I always tell people, he didn't play a lot of college football, so this is really only his second year as a starter playing college and pro. So, the arrow's pointing up, but he's got to keep going. We called Shaq [Barrett] down, so we're expecting big plays from him."

CORNERBACK JAMEL DEAN

(On if it will be different playing early in the morning in Germany)

"I mean once I get going – I just got to get out of bed. Once I get moving, I'm alright."

(On how motivated he is to play against the Seahawks again and show how he's changed)

"I treat it like a milestone for me to like, redeem myself. Because I know, for the first game, it was unexpected – that was like my 'Welcome to the NFL' game, so now we'll see how I hold up with the experience I have. It's going to be a good game. I'm up for the challenge."

(On going up against Seahawks wide receivers Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf)

"I'm still excited to go against those guys because, you know, they've been getting better every year. So, I just want to see where I stand at."

(On if he remembers 'flipping the switch' after that last game against the Seahawks)

"I'm always going to remember that [game]. It's like being raised as the worst corner in the league to the very next week, actually getting an opportunity to play again. Because normally after having a game like that, you don't get to see a snap on defense anymore. I was fortunate enough to take advantage of the opportunity and go from the worst to having to be the best corner after next week."

(On what the win on Sunday did for this locker room)

"It finally got rid of that dark cloud that's been hovering over us. Now, we've got something to build from and continue just rolling as a team."

TIGHT END CADE OTTON

(On the sleep glasses the team is using to help adjust for the time change)

"Yeah we're going to do our best to sleep on the plane [and] kind of adjust our bodies there. Hopefully, [we can] just get on a schedule right when we get there and have a good night's sleep Saturday and get to work on Sunday."

(On how this week has been after a much-needed win)

"I think the vibe in here is really good. Guys are really excited to get to work again and go get another one. There's no satisfaction with just one win here – we want to keep it going."

(On the reaction from friends and family after his first career touchdown)

"Yeah I got a lot of texts. It's super cool just to see the support and how many people care – I knew they did, but just having the texts and calls and stuff was super cool."

(On if he knows any German)

"I don't. I mean, I know 'da' and 'nein' but other than that, not really. Maybe [I'll] see a few phrases [and] look them up online and see if I can get around a little bit. I've heard they speak a lot of English there so I know it won't be too much of a problem."
