TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 5-13-22

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On what he looks to get out of Rookie Minicamp)

"Just who can obtain the information we give them. Every day is a new install – who can apply it, who can put it out on the field, who can make mistakes and learn from them. Really, the physical part will take care of itself. We want to see what kind of shape their in. We know they're not in tip-top shape, but really it's the mental part of it. Getting them to run around and start understanding the scheme."

(On his first impressions of DL Logan Hall)

"Well, when you walk up to him, he's a big man first of all. I rarely look up to anybody. Him being 6' 6" and me being about 6' 2", I really have to snap my neck to look up at him. He's a very humble guy, but on the field, he works hard. He works very hard, as it showed today. Obviously, it's shorts and t-shirts, but we like thee hard work in him. He puts in the work, he puts in the time. I like that about him."

(On RB Rachaad White wanting to take his helmet home)

"That's a great thing – I think that's a great thing for a young man to do. Once that settles down and he gets to business, I think he'll be fine."

(On if too much is made of Logan Hall's body type)

"No, it's very rare you can get a 6' 6" [defensive] lineman these days. They all move to the offensive line. If you can get a prototype, Calais Campbell-type, Will Gholston-type – a guy that can bat down balls and is still athletic enough to do all the things you need him to do – you want the length."

(On if any particular player stood out today)

"Not just yet – it was more mental. A lot of adrenaline flowing during the day – a lot of mistakes. We'll try to clean them up tomorrow. Now, I think we will see. As we watch the film, I may think differently. Right now, I didn't see it."

(On QB Kyle Trask having a chance to become number two on depth chart)

"There's competition everywhere, so there will be competition at that spot as well. Blaine [Gabbert] finished the season at number two – we like Blaine. [Kyle] Trask is going to get his chance to play and compete and if he's better, he'll be number two. If he's not, he won't be. But, he will have a chance to compete. He knows that and everybody knows that."

(On the Buccaneers' 2022 schedule)

"Well, we knew who we were playing from the start. There's no easy way around it – when you come in first place, you get a first-place schedule. So, we'll get ready for it."

(On the first four matchups of the regular season)

"The only good thing is you only have to play one at a time. So, we'll deal with them when they come."

(On the difficulty of scouting during Rookie Minicamp when he already has a Super Bowl-caliber roster)

"You're always looking for depth and you're always looking for new players. Every year, it's a competition thing – unless you're great, like certain players we have, you're looking for competition. They have that inner drive – everybody else needs to be pushed. We're looking for that with the new players we have."

(On gauging how a player can be successful coming out of Rookie Minicamp)

"Playing time – anything they can do to help us win ball games. Be a starter, back-up role, make a play here and there, contribute by pushing everyone else to be better. We drafted these guys and hopefully most of them can help us play this year and help us win this year. I think they can help us do that."

(On if he enjoys the challenge of going against elite offensive teams and players)

"That's the only way you can get to the Super Bowl and win it. If you don't beat the best of the best, you're not going anywhere. Some years, it's running quarterbacks – some years, it's throwing quarterbacks. Some years, it's running game – some years, it's passing game. But this year, we've got all the great ones. We'll get ready for it and we'll be ready to play."

(On how he believes RB Rachaad White will integrate into offense)

"Well, he's a good talent – that's why we drafted him. We know that Leonard [Fournette] is our starter, obviously. We look for White to compete with [Ke'shawn] Vaughn and Gio [Benard], and we'll see from there. He has good feet coming out of college. He has good size – he has good feet and good speed. We'll see in preseason where he fits at. He's capable of spelling Leonard – he's capable of catching the ball. He's capable of doing a lot of things."

(On what can be improved upon from last season)

"Well, there's plenty of things to get better at. First of all, the teams that beat us – we have to look at ourselves and see what they have on us and what we can do differently. Second of all, there's a lot of stunts on both sides of the ball whether it's blitz-pickup or whether it's [defensive] line play – setting each other up so we can get better. We can get better with our vision on defense. We can get better at route running on offense. We can get better at a whole bunch of things. Any time you don't win the Super Bowl, you can get better at a whole bunch of things. [A] 13-4 [record] was good, it just wasn't good enough. The key is to try and tweak the things we need to get better at while not messing up the things you are better at or already good at."

(On QB Tom Brady showing up for voluntary mini-camp)

"Tom's a worker. Tom comes in on his own – he doesn't need to be here. But, you don't play that long without having inner-drive. We have great communication and we have a great relationship. He comes in on his own and works. He doesn't need the work everyone else needs, but the comraderie, when he comes in here, is very good."

(On if he has seen anything out of the undrafted wide receivers attending Rookie Minicamp)

"Not just yet. We're going to try and take a look at them as punt returners, and see where we go from there. But, we've got two more days to see them."

(On when he expects TE Cade Otton to participate in practice)

"We're going to take it day-by-day. I'm not a trainer, so we'll see where he is next week."

(On the change in his relationship with QBTom Brady now that he is the head coach)

"I think it's pretty much the same – we kind of see the game the same way. Everybody thinks I'm changing the offense. I didn't get a head job to be an offensive coach. That's not my job. I've always been a defensive coach, that doesn't mean I can't be a head coach. Tom and I understand that – we have a great relationship going forward. We communicate constantly and I just look forward to working with him from a different angle. But, we always talked football off the field when he was here, regardless."

(On any extra emphasis being put on matchups with the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams)

"Well, we knew they were on the schedule. We're just focusing on ourselves and our draft picks right now. Again, we have things to clean up from those games, as well as other games, even games we won. There will be time to deal with that when it comes and we'll do our homework that way to see what they have on us to try and beat them."

(On any clarity on whether TE Rob Gronkowski will re-sign)

"No, it's still status quo."

(On when Rob Gronkowski may let him know whether he is returning or not)

"I do not at this time."

(On his conversations with QB Tom Brady)

"There's a lot of things that he thinks about and a lot of things that I think about – just trying to mesh it all together. We get to know each other better that wa,y so it's easier in-game to come up with decisions of things we want to do."

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN LOGAN HALL

(On if reality started to settle in when he put on a Buccaneers practice jersey for the first time)

"Yeah, to be quite honest, I'm still trying to process it a little bit. I'm sitting in this position talking to [media] after a practice so it's still a bit surreal, but it feels really good. It feels like I'm right where I need to be."

(On playing next to NT Vita Vea)

"I'm fired up. He can eat all the blocks, get all of the attention and I'll go get sacks. I'm really thrilled about that – he's a good football player."

(On working with Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach Kacy Rodgers)

"He's awesome. He is really cerebral [and] really good at explaining things. He's funny – a really likeable coach. I'm looking forward to getting to know him a little bit better."

TIGHT END KO KIEFT

(On the first day of Rookie Minicamp)

"It was great to get back with a team with one goal, and that's to win games and win a championship. It just feels great to be back in this environment and I'm just ready to continue to improve daily to go win a Super Bowl."

(On his tough, physical style of play as a tight end)

"At the end of the day, that's what the coaches at Minnesota asked me to do, so I did it to the best of my abilities. That's what I'm going to continue to do here. Whatever Coach [Byron] Leftwich and Coach [John] Van Dam ask me to do, I'm going to try my best to be the best at it."

(On working with Tight Ends Coach John Van Dam and if there is anything he has picked up from him already)

"Oh yeah, tons of stuff – different footwork, different plays, different verbiage. He's been a major help with some Zoom meetings before Rookie Minicamp helping me prepare and then in some installs this morning, last night and before practice. He's a really knowledgeable dude and I'm just really excited to learn tons from him."

CORNERBACK ZYON MCCOLLUM

(On his impressions on the first day)

"It was awesome. I love this game, so I'm definitely glad to be back out here. And on grass, too. All these little things – I take details into account, and I try to enjoy everything. But I'm definitely trying to learn, especially from all the coaches and the scheme. Everything comes at you fast, but you're just trying to be comfortable and I'm loving it."

(On what it was like to walk into the AdventHealth Training Center for the first time)

"It was crazy. I tried to take it all in but there's so much coming at you so fast that you just kind of roll with the punches. So, I've just been trying to stay in the moment, definitely, and then just enjoy it. Definitely when I go back to my hotel room, I'll have a moment to take everything in."

(On being prepared if he is asked to play a lot right away like some of the Buccaneers now veteran cornerbacks were when they were rookies)

"Just being on this field, the coaches see something in you. [They] see something in me. So, I expect, and I know, that I can play in terms of my caliber of talent and athleticism. So, right now, it's just getting comfortable with everything and everyone and just trying to get everybody to trust me. Once these players and these coaches trust me, then I'll be able to play at a high level."

RUNNING BACK RACHAAD WHITE

(On his first NFL practice)

"It was real. It was so real – it was crazy. But I mean when you walk out [on the] grass, you're just a football player. All the football instincts come in. [There were] times when I caught myself looking around and I'm looking at the logo on everybody's helmet and I'm looking at the jersey colors, and it's like, 'Yeah this is crazy. I'm on the Buccaneers.' It's wild."

(On his expectations for this year)

"I mean whatever the coaches need me to do. I'm just here competing. Obviously, like I said, you have goals and expectations as a player but whatever the coaches need me to do I'm going to do it to my full capability and my best ability."

(On what he wants to get out of Rookie Minicamp)

"I just want to get back into football groove, obviously at the same time I want to get smarter football – [wise], and things like that. [There are] certain things I can pick up that Coach [Todd] McNair is teaching me to make the game simpler on myself and to not have to rely on all athletic ability to be able to outsmart guys and outsmart the defense and stuff like that. That's the big thing that I'm trying to get out of this camp. And foremost I'm just going out there and having fun each day."
