Biography
Alex Smith is entering his sixth season with the Buccaneers and second as Assistant Director of Pro Scouting. He was elevated after spending four seasons as a pro scout.

In his role, Smith is responsible for the advanced scouting of upcoming opponents, evaluating players from all professional leagues, and organizing player workouts. In addition, Smith is tasked with evaluating free agents as well as college prospects.
After an 11-year playing career, Smith transitioned to the front office. In 2016, he was selected to participate in the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship where he worked with the Tampa Bay personnel department for training camp.
Smith is a former NFL tight end who was selected by the Buccaneers in the third round (71st overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. Smith finished his rookie season third in receptions amongst all rookies with 41, while ranking first amongst tight ends. During his 11-year career, he also spent time with Philadelphia (2009), Cleveland (2010-12), Cincinnati (2013-14) and Washington (2015). He finished his career with 124 games played (57 starts), catching 163 passes for 1,473 yards and 13 touchdowns.
A native of Denver, Colorado, Smith played collegiately at Stanford University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics. Smith was voted Team MVP his last year at Stanford, while also being selected first team All-Pac-10, second team All-American, and runner up for the John Mackey Award (Nation's best tight end).
In 2017, Smith was inducted into the J.K. Mullen (Denver, CO) High School Professional Hall of Fame. His father, Edwin, who played defensive end for the Denver Broncos from 1973-76, is also in the Bahamas Sports Hall of Fame after becoming the first NFL football player drafted from the Bahamas. Smith is married to Angela and they have three boys, Amari, Aiden and Avery.
During his playing career, Smith held free football clinics for the youth of his native Bahamas through his EASII Foundation for Youth. Smith remains active in the community as he and his wife continue to serve as advisory board members of the Mayor's Council since 2016.
Smith was a recent participant of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business NFL League of Leaders Program, a three-month program with other executives from around the league that covered a range of topics related to personal leadership skills.
