5 Things to Know: RB Ronald Jones II

Get to know the Bucs’ second pick of the 2018 NFL Draft with these five fast facts.

  1. He's productive.

He has recorded 14 100-yard rushing games in his career. Nine of those 14 games came in 2017. During his USC career, he has played 40 games for the Trojans with 19 starts. He scored 39 rushing touchdowns and totaled 3,619 yards on 591 carries for a 6.1-yard average during that span. As a receiver, he had 32 receptions for 301 yards and three touchdowns during his three-year collegiate career, as well.

  1. He's consistent.

Jones had at least one touchdown in 19 of his last 20 games at USC. He ranked fifth in the nation in rushing touchdowns and second in the Pac-12 in 2017 behind only Myles Gaskin of Washington.

  1. He's experienced.

Jones appeared in all 14 games in 2015 as a true freshman for USC and was used often despite his backup tailback role. As a true freshman, he led the team in rushing, making him just the second player in school history, along with LenDale White, to do so.

  1. He's versatile.

The Texas native was a track athlete in high school and college. He recorded bests of 10.37 seconds in the 100-meter dash (winning his district championships) and 21.98 in the 200 meters. He was briefly on USC's track team during his freshman year and made one appearance in the 400-meter relay. The team clocked a time of 39.89 seconds in the UCLA duel to win. His grandfather, Charles Dockery, ran track for Texas Southern in the 1960s.

  1. He carries the memory of his father in his name.

He is known as 'Rojo' to many or 'RoRo' by his younger sister, according to a SportsOnEarth article. His father, Ronald Jones Sr., was a former Army sergeant but passed away in 2012. Jones II points up to the sky as a tribute to his father when he scores a touchdown and will sometimes wear his dog tags, according to the same article.
