Topping Off Celebrates Museum Creation
Aug 07, 2009 -

The Glazer Children’s Museum got one step closer to completion on Friday as museum officials and project supporters came together for a “Topping Out” event in downtown Tampa.

More than 150 people attended the celebration barbecue at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park to commemorate the completion of the museum exterior. On hand were museum President and CEO Al Najjar, museum Board Chair Sandy Murman, Glazer Family Foundation Co-President Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Co-Chairman Bryan Glazer and Executive Vice President of J.O. DeLotto and Sons Doug Littrell.

“This is a significant day in the progress of turning this dream into a reality,” said Glazer Kassewitz. “The museum will play such a significant role in not only the development of our youth and their caretakers, but in the Tampa Bay community as a whole. My excitement builds with each day as we move closer to its completion.”

The new three story facility, scheduled to open in the summer of 2010, comprises 53,000 square feet and will serve as an early childhood educational center for parents and caregivers as well as local schools and area child service providers. The multi-disciplinary exhibits, educational programs and events are estimated to bring in 200,000 visitors annually to the facility. Donations of $5 million from the Glazer Family Foundation, along with numerous contributions from the Bay area, helped spearhead this project to create a new educational resource and cultural destination at the heart of Tampa.
