Buccaneers Transcript: Head Coach Bruce Arians - Tuesday, August 6, 2019

(On if he has an injury update on DL Vita Vea)

"No, I haven't seen him since [he left the field] so, I don't know. We'll check on it and see what the report is tonight."

(On what Vea injured)

"I have no idea. I just know I saw him walking in, and he looked fine."

(Thoughts on QB Jameis Winston's performance today)

"Three in a row. I thought he was fantastic, especially down here - he saw the blitz, got out and made a touchdown on the last play of the game. Yeah, he's progressing nicely."

(On if the receivers were struggling to catch the ball today)

"We went through that little stretch of drops. They all realize that's not how you make a team and they corrected it."

(On if he likes seeing pressure from defense or good plays from Winston)

"Both. I think they [the defense] can always bring one more than you can block. We're not going to block them all – you've got to know who's hot. We've done a really good job with our sight adjustments and hots. Especially on the third down period. That's a nice give and take."

(On the biggest growth he has seen in Winston)

"Just continuing knowing what the offense is doing and what he's doing in the offense. Accuracy and just a better understanding of the whole thing."

(On if any injured players are expected to play on Friday)

"We'll wait and see. There's some muscle injuries, but we'll see. I think, hopefully, two or three of them will play."

(On how he feels tight ends are doing so far when it comes to blocking and catching)

"That's one group I can say is doing a heck of a job with both. All six of them – five, [Scott] Orndoff didn't go today - but they've all been doing a heck of a job."

(On how he feels health-wise)

"I'll feel better when I know what's wrong with Vita."

(On what he's seen from CB Mazzi Wilkins)

"He's done a nice job. He's quick, he's jumped some routes – [he's] taken the opportunity and run with it."

(On how he feels about ILB Devin White's leadership)

"I couldn't have asked for any more. He knows what he's doing, he's playing fast, he's playing physical. He's running the whole show. He's not missing checks. Deone [Bucannon] has helped him a little bit now, Lavonte [David] helped him a little bit. He's doing fine."

(On the importance of utilizing checkdowns)

"Yeah, that's a huge part of what we do. Short throws and getting them out of the backfield. Hell, you can keep them in there and block. I used to call them button-ups, keeps your tight end in and keeps your back up. You're all blocked up, nowhere to go with the ball. So, get it out and get it out fast."

(On how Winston is adjusting to wins checkdown)

"I think that's one of his biggest areas of improvement. Instead of forcing it down the field he's seeing 11-yard gains on checkdowns 10 or 15 of those in a game – that's a lot of yards. With the backs we have, we're going to break some tackles. I think really hitting - the first time we were going live and he hit Rojo (Ronald Jones II) and Rojo went sixty on a checkdown, it's like, 'Oh this stuff works.' That's a great feeling for a quarterback."

(On the absence of CB Jamel Dean at practice)

"He's got a hip flexor."

(On the running backs)

"This is a very, very solid NFL group. They each bring something different to the table. You can get everything done within the offense with all four guys, and maybe five with Bruce [Anderson III]. Bruce has got a little Achilles tendonitis. We'll get him hopefully in the game Friday night and see what he's got."

(On what the defense can improve upon before the upcoming game)

"Overall assignments. Just especially the twos and threes. The guys that are going to play in this game need to pick it up. Again, you talk about exposure or getting exposed, and the twos and threes – they're either going to get exposure or they're going to get exposed in this ball game, because they got exposed some of them in practice today."
