Seven Former Bucs Land on ESPN All-Quarter Century Team
To commemorate the quarter-century mark, ESPN created an All-NFL All-Star team, selecting elite players to highlight the 53-man roster. Players who began their careers in the 1990s were eligible but only production in the 2000s was considered. Both statistical milestones and longevity in the league were weighed in creating the esteemed rundown. Among the list, ESPN selected seven former Buccaneers, including Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski, linebacker Lavonte David, cornerback Rondé Barber, wide receiver Julio Jones, cornerback Darelle Revis and cornerback Richard Sherman. The final three had one-year stints in Tampa Bay.
Brady, a three-time MVP and six-time All-Pro, won two Super Bowls in his 40s, including one with the Buccaneers following the 2020 campaign. Regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time, Brady became the missing link that the Bucs needed to reach the grand stage. Gronkowski, Brady's teammate in New England, joined Brady with the Bucs as they made their quest for another Lombardi Trophy. The four-time All-Pro and multi-faceted tight end became Brady's go-to target in the Bay, spurring the team to the pinnacle.
David, who was one of five linebackers to make the list, has been the heart and soul of the Bucs' defense for the past 13 seasons. He may be one of the most underrated players in the league, but David's stats put him among the best in the game. David was the lone player in 2024 with 100-plus tackles, 5.0-plus sacks and three-or-more forced fumbles, which he accomplished at the age of 34. He is just the eighth player since 1991 to record 40-plus sacks and 30-plus takeaways, per the Associated Press.
Barber, one of five cornerbacks on the list, was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2023. He is the Bucs' all-time leader in games played (241), games started (232) and interceptions (47). Barber had more career tackles than any other cornerback in league history, his 14 non-offensive touchdowns rank fourth all-time and he is the only player ever to start 200 consecutive games at cornerback. Barber redefined the slot cornerback position, earning immortalization in Canton.
