On a chilly January afternoon at Lambeau Field early in 2021, Tom Brady and Scotty Miller connected on one of the most thrilling plays ever made by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the postseason. Now Brady and Miller are going to be pitted against each other.
The Buccaneers were leading the home-team Green Bay Packers 14-10 near the end of the first half when cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting intercepted an Aaron Rodgers pass just past midfield with 28 seconds left before the break. After a successful fourth-down conversion, the Buccaneers were on the fringes of field goal range with eight seconds to go. The expected approach in this situation is to run one more pass to the sideline to give the kicker a better chance to get three very useful points just before halftime.
Instead, Brady went for the kill shot. Scotty Miller came out of the slot, got to the left side and sprinted past cornerback Kevin King. Brady lofted a deep pass that hit Miller as he fell across the goal line. The halftime lead was now a more imposing 21-10, and the Bucs would eventually secure a 31-26 victory and a ticket to Super Bowl LV.
Miller's stunning catch was one of the 64 unforgettable happenings from nearly a half-century of Buccaneers football included in the ongoing "50 Seasons Best Moments Presented by Ticketmaster" bracket. In the first round, it got past Shaquil Barrett's three-sack performance in the 2019 season finale that made him the first Buccaneer to ever lead the NFL in that category. In the round of 32, Miller's catch was deemed to be a bigger moment than the 1997 Wild Card game against Detroit in which Mike Alstott clinched the franchise's first playoff win in 18 years.
But now Miller finds himself face to face with Brady. In the round that will take our collection of moments from the Sweet 16 down to the Elite Eight, the Creamsicle Bracket pits Miller's catch against Tom Brady choosing the Buccaneers in 2020 in perhaps the most dramatic free agency move in NFL history.
