TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 10-10-22

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On if he has more clarity about injuries suffered by defensive backs Carlton Davis, Mike Edwards and Sean Murphy-Bunting)

"Not yet. [They are] just sore, so we'll see how the week goes and see if they progress any and start to play on Sunday."

(On if Davis and Murphy-Bunting are getting MRIs)

"I know Sean is, I'm not sure about Carlton. I don't think he is."

(On if thinks Edwards will be fine)

"I think he should be okay."

(On if there is a chance DL Akiem Hicks will return to practice this week)

"I'll believe it when I see it. We thought he'd heal a little bit earlier than he did, so it's kind of a week-by-week thing right now with him."

(On how rookie CB Zyon McCollum played)

"He didn't get much action on defense but I thought special teams-wise he was disruptive on the kickoff team. He was down there about five to 10 yards ahead of everybody else. He had a tackle, he caused two more and I thought he played well his first time out."

(On if WR Chris Godwin didn't play a lot in the second half because he got hurt)

"No, he was fine. We were just [substituting] guys in and out and making sure people were rested. He's got to get accustomed to playing a full game as well, so we didn't want to overtax him."

(On if the team is taking a conservative approach to getting WR Julio Jones back)

"Yeah, I think we are. Again, just like Jason [Licht] said, we want him fully healthy and not coming out for a week and then missing another couple [of] weeks. We think we've got enough guys right now to weather that storm."

(On if pain tolerance is an issue for Jones)

"Well, I don't have the injury, so I'm not sure. His pain tolerance is very high, so I know he's hurt. But when he's back, we'll be happy to have him. It's just one of those things we have to wait and see."

(On if he considered challenging the spot on a third-down catch by TE Cade Otton in the first quarter)

"There was a thought. We thought he was kind of laying on top of the guy as opposed to being on the ground, but you really couldn't see it from the replay and anything close that they can't see they're probably not going to overturn."

(On how WR Scotty Miller played)

"I thought he played well yesterday. He competed, he played fast, he went over the middle, he went deep. He got in there and did some things in the blocking game that we were happy to see and I thought he progressed well."

(On if he thought Miller was interfered with on his fourth-quarter deep route)

"They didn't throw the flag. My opinion doesn't really matter because I don't wear a striped shirt."

(On if he worries if penalties on plays involving the quarterback will lead to two-hand touch style of football)

"Well hopefully I won't be in the league that long when they do come up with that decision, if they come up with that decision. You try to play it the right way. You try to do all the things the right way, and some things can't be helped. Some things – a lot of things – can be helped. You don't worry about it that much as long as you're teaching it the right way and making sure they're playing it the right way."

(On his assessment of rookie G Luke Goedeke and if Goedeke struggled on Sunday)

"Well, he struggled a little bit with Grady [Jarrett]; I don't know too many people that don't – he's a heck of a player over there. But overall, I think his first five games have been very well taken care of, as far as him playing and doing his job and playing with a mean streak. Some things he needs to clean up, we understand that, but he's trending in the right direction. We're happy with him and he can only get better."

(On the Falcons converting on third-and-long several times)

"They made plays and we had some busts here and there. Things just didn't work out right."

(On if he wants the players to be cognizant of what the referees are calling or just play instinctively)

"We always try to be cognizant of what the officials are calling going into every week. They have different things they call every week [that] we try to be cognizant of. We remind them of [it], we talk about it during the week so we understand what they're looking for. So, we try to be cognizant of that, not just the quarterback but every call."

(On if he worries if that might take away from the defenders' aggressiveness)

"It's part of the game. We try not to take away their aggressiveness, and we let them play and we go from there. But we've got to make them aware of it."

(On how the Falcons got two late scoring drives to get back into the game)

"There were some missed tackles, there was some fatigue there. We've got to play better team ball. We went three-and-out a couple times which put them out there faster, and a lot of those guys are on [special] teams. We've got to be better as a team completely – offensively converting, defensively getting off the field and special teams not letting the ball go past midfield."

(On why he chose a two-point conversion attempt after going up 19-0)

"In case they came back you want to be up by three touchdowns, not them just needing three to win but three to tie."

(On if  WR Russell Gage had his snaps limited due to back issues)

"I'm not sure about this week, but all of those guys have injuries in the past so we try to be cognizant of the snaps of everybody right now until we get rolling and everybody gets healthy. So, we'll see what this week brings."

(On his assessment of TE Cade Otton and if Otton's role will expand going forward)

"I think Cade played well – he blocked well, he caught the ball well, he understands the game. He's only going to get better for us. He's a very big piece of what we're trying to do, and his role has already expanded – I don't know if it can get any bigger – but it's already expanded…It depends on the game plan. You don't just make [the game plan] for one guy. But he'll play his normal amount of reps and when it's time for him to make a play he'll step up and make it."

(On Otton's blocking)

"He's a full tight end. Obviously, he can get better at blocking in a lot of ways but he's willing, he tries, he sticks his face in there, he's not afraid of the competition and he catches the ball well. So, we're happy with him."

(On S Antoine Winfield Jr. making plays all over the field)

"I say it all the time – he's an old-school football player. He just loves to play the game – he smiles when he's out there, he understands it, he plays fast, he loves it. If he could be out there 24 hours a day, he probably would."

(On if S Logan Ryan could return from his foot injury this week)

"Probably not this week."

(On cornerback depth if cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting are out)

"Well, we're still going to take a look at it. We've got [Zyon] McCollum, we've got [Dee] Delaney, we've got some guys on the practice squad that we like. So, we'll take a look at it if they can't play."

(On if TE Cameron Brate could be back this week)

"We'll see if they clear him, see how he feels and we'll take it day by day."

(On how the offense has played in the red zone)

"We're getting better. We got some points yesterday. We are getting better at it. They've been working at it and I think it's just going to get better and better."

(On how the red zone offense has gotten better)

"Well, we're scoring now. We were kicking field goals before. We're getting across the goal line right now, so it is getting better. That's a change. From seven points to three points is a big difference. We just have to make sure we keep converting them."

(On scoring being down across the NFL)

"I don't know. I haven't watched all the games. I haven't been able to put a finger on it as to what everybody's doing right now. We'll take a look at it when we get a chance."

(On a play before halftime involving substitution issues and the officials not letting the ball be snapped)

"The ball wasn't snapped. A timeout was called, so there was really no harm, no foul. There were a lot of people running around – you can't really say what happened. There just [weren't] any flags thrown."

(On if the officials are not supposed to stand over the ball inside the final two minutes of a half)

"[They're] not supposed to, no."
