TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 12-11-23

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On if there are any injury updates after Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons)

"[There are] just a lot of guys banged up at this point – still shifting in and coming in and out. I'll have a better update Wednesday. I can't really say [if] anybody has [been] tested or not tested as of right now. It will be a long list, I know that much, but we will see how bad later on this afternoon."

(On injury updates on LB Devin White and NT Vita Vea)

"[I] don't know yet. You know, don't know yet. They are both still sore. Hopefully, a couple days off will help them and we'll see where we are at."

(On how the Buccaneers were able to limit Atlanta's rushing attack without Vea)

"I thought [Greg] Gaines did a heck of a job coming in filling in for him. [He] played a bunch of snaps – more than usual – but he handled himself very well. I thought K.J. [Britt] and Lavonte [David] did a good job getting us in and out of calls by what we see, and everybody ran to the ball pretty [well]."

(On where LB K.J. Britt has made the most improvement)

"I think the mental part of the game slowed down for him. You know, getting live reps, the mental part slowing down, [and] becoming more of a vocal leader…He has a lot of confidence and I think that exudes to other guys. I think his leadership and mental part of his [game] as far as communicating has come along. We know he is a down-hill hitter, we know he can run side to side, take on linemen, and do all those things, but his leadership and understanding of the game has really come along."

(On TE Cade Otton having three last-minute touchdowns over the past two seasons)

"Cade's always going to be where you expect him to be. He's never going to be out of position, he's always going to run the right route, he's always got sure hands, [and] he's always going to do what he is supposed to do. You know where to find him if somebody is in trouble. You know where to find him, you know he's pretty reliable, and he has a good catch radius – he's become very reliable."

(On QB Baker Mayfield's throw to TE Cade Otton at the end of the game)

"Well, based on the coverage, it was by design. He [had] a good read on it, the seven route (corner route) was there for Cade, and if he didn't catch it, nobody would catch it. Baker made a heck of a throw, Cade came through."

(On how Otton is able to stay on the field as much as he does)

"He does a lot of things for us. He's very steady. When we ask him to block, he blocks [defensive] ends, he blocks [linebackers] he runs routes, [and] he runs pick plays. He does a lot of things for us, he's invaluable that way. I keep saying it all the time, he's our most unsung hero over there right now. He does a lot things, he's very steady, he's very smart, [and] he plays special teams when need be. He does a lot of odds and ends for us that really doesn't go on the stat sheet, but really shows up for us as coaches."

(On why there were only nine players on the field when Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson scored)

"Will [Gholston] got hurt a little before that and it [did not get] back to the coaches in time, so that happened with one and then we had someone come off the field on the other one."

(On why he showed more emotion than usual on the sidelines on Sunday)
"It's playoff time, we [have] to go. High level game, high level emotions."

(On what made the team believe they could get back into first place and control their destiny)

"Just the focus – the plays we messed up, [and] the little things…The plays we won yesterday with – and the week before [against] Carolina – we weren't winning in late October and early November. The maturity factor has kicked in, and mental toughness factor has kicked in, and then believing in each other and playing for each other has kicked in. That's kind of what you want to see in December football. I think that plays a lot in it."

(On why the offense performs better in the second half and in high leverage situations)

"Again, we learned from the middle of the season. There were some things we had in the middle of the season [that] we didn't cash in on that we are playing better [at] now. We are executing now because of certain guys being in those situations quite a few times. The urgency at the end of the game is always at a high level. I think the confidence in which we can complete them now, offensively, and try to stop them, defensively, is there. The confidence is there from that aspect in December, [whereas] I don't think it was as much in the middle of the season. We have a lot of guys playing – a lot of different guys playing – a lot of new guys playing. I think this time of the year, it's time for them to settle down and just play comfortable football, as far as mentally, and I think they are doing that."

(On RB Chase Edmonds' performance after being injured earlier this season)

"He's healthy. When he first got hurt, he spent a lot of time out of the offense, but getting an opportunity to play…I thought the line did a good job getting him open that way. He can make some one cuts. He's a one cut, downhill runner, he makes some very good cuts, he runs pretty hard, and he runs pretty quick through the hole."

(On potentially playing in nice weather in Green Bay this weekend)

"We've got to win, no matter what. It really doesn't matter. Memories last time don't really count because a lot of these guys weren't here. We've got to go out and earn it."
