The Buccaneers came into their second season still looking for the franchise's first win, and would have to wait until December for that cathartic event. First-ever draft pick Lee Roy Selmon blossomed into a full-formed star with 13.0 sacks to lead a defense that ranked in the top half of the league; the offense, however, continued to struggle, scoring just seven touchdowns in 14 games even after using the first pick in the draft on USC running back Ricky Bell. In Week 13, the Buccaneers returned three interceptions for touchdowns in a 33-14 win at New Orleans that gave the franchise it's first victory and set off a wild celebration back in Tampa. The first home win came a week later against St. Louis, producing a 2-12 record.
