Series Overview
The Buccaneers and Cowboys met early in Tampa Bay's franchise existence in the playoffs, but for much of the past 50 years – until recently – they have rarely been playoff contenders at the same time. Dallas won the first eight meetings from 1976-90, then the two teams didn't play for a decade until the Bucs launched a three-game winning streak in 2000. More recently, the Buccaneers started both their 2021 and 2022 seasons with wins over the Cowboys but Dallas eliminated Tampa Bay from the playoffs in 2022.
Notable Matchups
- 2021 Regular Season: As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Buccaneers hosted the annual Kickoff Game on a Thursday night in Tampa and Tom Brady engineered a signature last-minute drive to set up Ryan Succop for the game-winning field goal in 31-29 thriller.
- 2000 Regular Season: Warrick Dunn's first carry went 70 yards for a touchdown as he began a 22-carry, 210-yard, two-touchdown afternoon in the Bucs' 27-7 thrashing of the visiting Cowboys.
- 1982 Postseason: The Bucs made the rebranded "Super Bowl Tournament" after a strike-shortened season but had to go to Dallas in the postseason for a second year in a row, this time taking a 17-16 lead into the fourth quarter before a Dallas pick-six and a Danny White touchdown pass led to a 30-17 decision for the home team.
