(Opening Statement)

"Really pleased with the work, the speed of the practice. Obviously, there's mistakes on both sides, but a lot of really good things happened out there. I never judge practice walking off the field. I judge practice by the tape, but I was pleased with the speed of the practice. Like I said, started with special teams and just kept building."

(On if the players were ready to practice today)

"Everybody's tired of phase two. They want to compete and that's a beautiful thing."

(On the rookies at practice today)

"I think all the young kids jumped out there right away and didn't look like they had not been here and looked like they fit right in. I was really impressed with Devin [White's] interception. All those young guys have such good ball skills. Turnovers is something that we really preach about and we got some today."

(On how Noah Spence did at practice today)

"He's got a great opportunity right now to get on tape and get many snaps. Why do we practice two practices? So, we can get everybody on tape. You can't find a diamond in the rough if they're standing on the sideline watching a young man came in from Indianapolis last weekend and just showed up. I'm anxious to watch the tape and see what he did today. But, Noah looked very good out there today."

(On practicing in the indoor facility today)

"Yeah, it's not a problem, it's just shortening the field. We've got 45 yards and you can get everything done there."

(On if it's too soon to judge if there's a good deep ball relationship between WR Breshad Perriman and QB Jameis Winston)

"I wouldn't say there's not, but it looks really good right now. BP slowed down on the one he lost up there in the ceiling and that was a great throw and a great read by him taking another field versus cover so, you love seeing those things because you know they're going to start connecting. In the other practices – yeah, that's going to be a heck of a combination."

(On LB Lavonte David's leadership skills)

"He's got a resume and a really good one. Almost Hall of Fame one. He's a very quiet leader. You like those kind of guys, because you just follow them. You don't have to hear them, you just follow them."

(On when S Justin Evans will start practicing)

"No. That's up to the doctors." 

(On ILB Devin White's ability to be vocal in a huddle)

"Yeah, Devin's not shy. That's what we like about it and he jumped out – he knows the defense quickly for today's instillation. [He] wasn't bashful about calling the defense and getting everybody lined up."

(On what Arians saw from the right side of the offensive line today)

"Nothing. They don't have pads on. We'll go in and watch the film, but those guys - it's hard for them. But I don't judge any of the linemen this time of year."

(On breaking the habits of rookie cornerbacks)

"Yeah, I told them to call their college coaches and thank them for screwing them up, because in college you can jam at 12 to 15 yards and jump in front of guys and we've got to break that habit. Every year you get these rookie corners and you've got to break the way they've been taught, because it's illegal here. I keep telling them, 'That's a penalty, that's a penalty.' They'll get it."

(On if CB Vernon Hargreaves III will practice soon)

"Yeah, I talked to Vernon. He's got to get his mind right to practice."

(On what Arians is hoping to accomplish this offseason and if he has priorities set for himself)

"Learning the core values of the offense, defense and all phases of special teams. Become a better situational-smart football team. Started with one today - we'll add two or three every day. We can put them through a number of situations, so they're never surprised on the sideline."

(On why CB Vernon Hargreaves was not ready to practice)

"You'll have to ask him."

(On if CB Carlton Davis III was okay to practice today)

"No, he started out and then something happened. I'll have to check with the trainers."

(On how QB Jameis Winston did at practice today)

"Other than trying to force one on the over route, I thought he had a heck of a day."

(On the new additions on defense)

"So far, it's been fun, going over install and things like that. There are a lot of things that different guys can do that will put a lot of guys in position to make some plays, so I'm excited about that. For the first day out here, it's been really fun with guys flying around, guys communicating, guys talking. I didn't see any mental errors, I hope there weren't, but you never know. We will have to go back in the film room and check it out, but from what I saw, it was fun to be back out here with guys flying around, talking and communicating."

(On linebacker Devin White)

"Something about those LSU guys. All of them bring a certain type of energy, certain type of swagger and we're glad to have him here. He is happy to be here. He's more than ready to step in and contribute right away. The first day, he's flying around and caught an interception on the second play of practice, so that's a big positive sign. He's happy to be here and the first day, he is talking. For a rookie to come in and be talking like that, it's really amazing to see, so the sky is the limit for him most definitely."

(On Devin White's earlier comments regarding looking up to him)

"It means a lot. Obviously, I am the longest tenured guy in the [linebacker] room. I have been here for the longest as a [linebacker]. I feel honored, but it's a whole new defense. I'm learning like I am a rookie again also. Me and him are basically coming in at the same time, we're going to learn together and try to turn this thing around together."

(On the new defensive scheme)

"From what I see right now, there is not a lot of thinking. Guys are just lining up and playing football, not a lot of pressure on a lot of guys. Putting guys in a position to make plays and use their skillset. We have a lot of great talent, a lot of great athletes out there, so once you get those guys going, getting them moving, things will be great."

(On Noah Spence in the new defensive scheme)

"Seeing him, he is in a whole new attitude and mindset right now. His body is looking good, he is in great shape and he is having fun. Noah is communicating and talking and feeling more confident, so that is what I like to see. An unfortunate thing happened with JPP (Jason Pierre-Paul). That gives guys like Noah and other guys a chance to step up. We have all the faith in the world in Noah. We know what he brings to the table and we're ready for him to bring it this year.

(On whether he feels more of a need to step up as a veteran leader this year)

"I don't think anybody expects more from me. Everybody expects me to be the same guy that I've been, being the leader that I am, the quiet leader that I am. Everybody leans on me for a lot of things and we keep that between ourselves. Guys know what I'm capable of, they know what I bring. They also know the energy I can bring, the motivational factor I can bring. Certain things – sometimes, when guys like JPP go down, stuff like that, my role sometimes has to get a little bigger, but they don't expect more out of me. They just expect me to be the same person that I've been, to be the same helper that I've been since I've been here."

(On Gerald McCoy's absence so far during offseason training)

"Everybody around here loves Gerald. Gerald is a vet. Upstairs and Gerald have been having constant communication, I'm sure, about why he's not here. Gerald is a vet. Everybody knows how Gerald carries himself, so when he comes back, he's going to be full throttle. I don't only see Gerald as a teammate. I see him as a brother and one of my closest friends, so I know he is capable of it and he will be ok."

(On whether he believes Gerald McCoy will be a Buccaneer this season)

"There is a business side of it and a personal side of it. Personally, I know he wants to be here and he's going to work his tail off like he is playing this year. Business side of it, I don't know what's going on."

(On whether he thinks about his status as a Buccaneer following the 2019 season)

"At the end of the day, you can only control what you can control. For me, it's just going out there, helping the young guys, getting [acclimated] to a new defense. It's just going out there and having fun. I try to take it one day at a time, one step at a time. That's how I try to live and like I said, I am coming in like a rookie all over again, so I am just trying to go out there and contribute the best way I can."

(On whether the offense has changed from his perspective)

"It's different – as you can see, there are going to be a lot of shots taken down the field. I am sure Coach [Arians] is going to add that to the game plan. Defensively, we gave up a lot of shots, so it will help us big time covering those deep balls down the field, helping us get better in that category defensively. There is going to be a lot of competing out there between offense and defense and it's going to be fun. It's going to be a fun offseason."

(On offensive players that have stood out to him so far this offseason)

"[Wide receiver] Bobo [Wilson] is coming along, Breshad Perriman, guys like that, Chris [Godwin], you guys already know what Chris brings to the table. Justin Watson got another year under his belt. All those guys are going to contribute the best way they can and hopefully help us win."

(On wide receiver Scotty Miller)

"I haven't seen him. Today we had two different practices, so he wasn't out there working with us, so I haven't seen him."

(On whether he believes this defensive scheme will allow the linebackers to give more pressure)

"I think so. So far from what I see, there is going to be a lot of pressure from the 'backers – [and] from other guys also. [Defensive Coordinator Todd] Bowles does a great job of mixing things up, making things look the same, but coming from different ways, different angles and stuff like that. It's going to be a real nice mix up and I am excited for it. It's all about execution at the end of the day. As long as everybody is doing what they are supposed to do, it's going to be fun in the backfield."

(On first day of OTAs)

"It's a complete honor just to be past that phase two and be out there against live bodies. It feels good to be back. Day one, you have to knock some rust off, but definitely feels good to be back going against other people."

(On what he expects from Bruce Arians' offense)

"Big plays – simple, cold-cut, big plays all around, run-game and pass-game. You can just see from being out there, he is going to take his shots and it's just a great offense to be a part of."

(On versatility of players on offense)

"Definitely. I feel like we bring a lot to the table, a lot of guys. You think it, we have someone that can do it. That's just a great thing to be a part of."

(On the rookie receivers)

"Honestly, we were on two different fields. We had one field and they had the other, but from the routes on there, they seem like they all have some juice."

(On whether he views the dual practices as beneficial)

"Yeah, definitely. It's just a fair shot for everybody to get what they do on film, to really put your work on tape, so it's just a great thing."

(On getting in sync with Jameis Winston on the deep ball)

"Yeah, it's going to come with time. I feel like we are at a good point right now though and we will continue to grow. It's day one and we are already competing some of them, so it's not going to do nothing but grow."
