On Thursday night, the NFL season opened with a Super Bowl rematch that saw the division-rival Carolina Panthers narrowly fall to the defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos. Effectively, the Buccaneers are now in a three-way tie for first place in the division. The Bucs could stay on top with a win against another division rival this Sunday.
The Bucs are off to Atlanta to face the Falcons and there are plenty of storylines that make this an interesting one to follow. The Bucs' new head coach, Dirk Koetter, is a former Falcons offensive coordinator while the Buccaneers new defensive coordinator used to be the head coach in Atlanta. Of course, last season the Buccaneers swept the Falcons, taking a one-game lead in the all-time series. These teams are very familiar. On top of all of that, of course the importance lies mostly with the Buccaneers winning an all-important divisional road game to start the season on a high note.
