Luke Smith begins his first season as assistant special teams coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2026.

Before his arrival to Tampa Bay, Smith previously served as quality control coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025. In his year with the Steelers, Smith contributed to Pittsburgh's playoff berth and AFC North division title.

Prior to his time with the Steelers, he spent nine years at Duquesne University, beginning as a defensive assistant (2016-17) before being promoted to wide receivers coach (2018-24). During his time with the Dukes, the team won four Northeast Conference Championships (2016, 2018, 2023, 2024) and made two NCAA FCS Playoff appearances (2018, 2023).

Smith coached 10 Duquesne receivers to all-conference honors, including six who earned first-team recognition. Cyrus Holder, the NEC's leader in receiving yards in 2020-21 under Smith's guidance, earned an undrafted rookie free agent contract with the Chicago Bears in 2022. Smith also coached Duquesne's all-time leading receiver, Nehari Crawford, to an NEC-high 1,048 receiving yards and 71 receptions in 2018. Over his six seasons leading the wide receiver room, Smith had a wide receiver finish top three in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in five of those six years.
