Shane Scannell enters his 11th season with the Buccaneers and his first as Director of Player Personnel, after being promoted from director of pro scouting.
Scannell spent two seasons as director of pro scouting, following two seasons as assistant director of pro scouting and five seasons as a pro scout. He began his career with Tampa Bay in 2015 as a scouting assistant.
Following his promotion, Scannell has taken on a larger, more wide-ranging role as he becomes increasingly involved with roster management as well as college scouting, while still overseeing the pro scouting department.
Since coming to Tampa Bay, Scannell has held a key role in a player personnel department that has acquired a number of impactful free agents over the years including Shaquil Barrett, Tom Brady, Ben Bredeson, Antonio Brown, Leonard Fournette, Rob Gronkowski, Ryan Jensen, Chase McLaughlin, Jason Pierre-Paul, Haason Reddick and Ndamukong Suh. These acquisitions have helped propel Tampa Bay to five consecutive playoff appearances (2020-24), four consecutive NFC South division titles (2021-24) and a Super Bowl LV championship.
Scannell played football collegiately at Wesleyan University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology. A native of Mahwah, New Jersey, he played high school football at Don Bosco. He and his wife, Haley, currently reside in Tampa.
