After finishing the 1990 season as the Buccaneers' interim head coach, Richard Williamson got the full-time job in 1991 but lasted only one season at the helm, a 3-13 campaign that opened with three straight losses by margins of three or fewer points. The losses got more lopsided as the season progressed and the Bucs' offense was only able to generate a total of 199 points, or 12.4 per game. Vinny Testaverde and Chris Chandler once again traded the starting quarterback job back and forth but neither produced a passer rating of 60 or better. Broderick Thomas led the team in both sacks (11.0) and tackles (174) but was snubbed for the Pro Bowl, where the team went unrepresented. Rookie wide receiver Lawrence Dawsey led the team with 55 catches and second-year back Reggie Cobb produced 752 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Williamson was fired after the season.
