2013 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Season | Team History & Highlights

1976
The 2013 season was the second and final one with Greg Schiano as the Buccaneers head coach, and it was marred by hard times on and off the field. There was some optimism regarding the team after a 7-9 finish in 2012, but an eight-game losing streak to start the season quickly squashed that. The Buccaneers did win four of the next five games but closed out the season on another three-game losing streak to finish at 4-12. After a 4,000-yard passing season in 2012, quarterback Josh Freeman struggled early and was benched in favor of third-round draft pick Mike Glennon. The team's ace kicker, Connor Barth, suffered a season-ending knee injury in a charity basketball game just before training camp and injuries later took running back Doug Martin and wide receiver Mike Williams out of the lineup. The Buccaneers attempted to remake their secondary in the offseason by trading a first-round pick for star cornerback Darrelle Revis, using a second-round pick on cornerback Johnthan Banks and signing safety Dashon Goldson in free agency, but the end result was the league's 17th-ranked pass defense. During the season, a MRSA infection in the locker room at team headquarters created additional issues. Second-year linebacker Lavonte David was a bright spot with a seven-sack, five-interception season that earned him first-team All-Pro honors. Schiano and General Manager Mark Dominik were let go the day after the season ended.
