TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 8-23-23

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On members of the Tampa Bay Lightning front office visiting practice today)

"Yeah, the brass came out here today – the heat instead of the ice. It was good to see them."

(On if most turnovers happen on third-and-long)

"I think it varies [between] college and the NFL – it's different each game. I'll have to look at the analytics for sure. We get a lot and first- and second-down, I know for sure. We get a lot of sacks on third-and-long if they're not throwing screens. I know the sack rate is up high but I'm not sure about the turnovers in the NFL."

(On the team huddling up during the middle of practice)

"We were just talking football – nothing else to talk about, really."

(On how much analytics go into his decision-making process)

"During the season, it goes hand in hand. You look at it enough to where you try to get some tips, but you also have to look at it enough to where you don't rely on it completely. Situations bring up things where you use it a lot – I think it's very beneficial and it helps us."

(On his vantage point for WR Trey Palmer's touchdown reception against the Jets)

"From where I stood, it looked like he tipped it to himself on purpose – I'm not sure if he did or not. It was a heck of an athletic play by him. I don't know if he could have gotten two hands up at that time, where he thought the guy was going to get a hand on it. It was a heck of a play."

(On DL Logan Hall's growth over the past year)

"For him, it's been scheme his first year. He's starting this year. He's come a long way in the spring, as far as understanding the scheme and the run game. You don't have to teach him it now, he knows everything. We like where he's at. He'll be starting this year."

(On if there's an update on DL Calijah Kancey)

"Status quo."

WIDE RECEIVER TREY PALMER

(On his touchdown against the Jets this past weekend)

"Before the play, me and the receivers were [saying], 'Whoever gets the ball, go score.' I was blessed that it came to me and I made the play. I saw [the] ball, I got [the] ball."

(On his 'no name, no face' mantra)

"My coach had always told me that since I was a freshman in college, so it always stuck with me. That's what I go by now."

(On what the 'no name, no face' mantra means)

"It means I don't care who you [are], what your name is, we're all just playing ball at the end of the day and I'm just making a play and competing."

(On vying for the third wide receiver spot after the injury to WR Russell Gage)

"We're all just working together and really just trying to help the team win. We're just competing at practice and really just getting better and better each and every day. We're praying for my boy Russ but we're all just competing and trying to help the team win."

(On what he's seen from QB Baker Mayfield)

"We've got three great quarterbacks and they're all just competing and helping us get better – telling us what we need to do, where we need to be at. We're still just working on our timing and our connections."

(On if he practices highlight-reel catches or if it happens naturally)

"It happens naturally. I work on it at practice and get extra [work] after practice, catching jugs and stuff like that. When I see the ball, I just see the ball – there's nothing around, I just see the ball – tunnel vision."

(On what else he wants to accomplish before the end of the preseason)

"I'm just trying to keep the train rolling and really just work on my footwork and get more into the playbook and really just learn the playbook from inside out so I can just move around to different positions and help the team win."

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN LOGAN HALL

(On how comfortable he feels in his second season and being in a larger role)

"You know, it's night and day coming in as a rookie. [Head Coach] Todd [Bowles'] defense is super complex. It's a big change from what I came from [being] at [University of] Houston. By adjusting all that, as well as learning the opposing offense that week is really tough as a rookie. But, I'm much more comfortable with the scheme now and that allows me to play faster."

(On what he is focusing on this season)

"I would say as far as the pass game, diversity. I'm pretty good at some finesse stuff, but incorporating power more into my rushes, [and] giving the offense something else to look at. In the run game, being better with my hands, you know, hand placement, [and] other than that, that's really it."

(On DL Calijah Kancey's performance prior to injury)

"Calijah is incredible. I feel like he is really ahead of the curb, especially, [compared] to how I was when I came in. [He is a] tremendous pass rusher. He is still going through the growing pains of learning some of the defense, but football-wise, he's got it, [and] he can go for real."

(On what he has learned from DL Will Gholston)

"I couldn't tell you everything I have learned from Will. He was really like a big brother to me. [He] showed me the ropes, and now that I am in his same position, even now, he's still giving me pointers and what he sees. He has been a tremendous help."

(On what it has been like going against Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales' offense)

"It's been fun, it's been a little bit different, but I'm excited to see him get going throughout the season. But, it's definitely been fun."
