TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 8-27-23

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On if anyone's status is questionable for Week 1)

"Mike [Evans] will definitely be ready – he was healthy – we wanted to see some younger guys. He was coming off a groin earlier this week, but he had full practices. We wanted to hold him out. He'll be ready. [Antoine] Winfield [Jr.], Calijah [Kancey] and SirVocea [Dennis] – hopefully they make progress by the end of the week. We'll see how they go going into the game week right now, but we're hopeful they can be ready."

(On C Ryan Jensen playing in the Wild Card game last year)

"Not really, we thought he gutted it out right there. But, as he didn't practice come spring and then summer, we talked about a lot of things going into that and it could have [gone] either way. None of us – or at least, I'm not a doctor – from that standpoint, so we listened to medical advice and everything else. Ryan is as tough as they come and as it started progressing and we started not seeing anything, it was kind of a tough pill and something he had to come to grips with as he came to grips with it. We talk about it all the time but we never talked about him just shutting it down. Maybe we started having conversations about a week ago and we tried to work some things out going forward from that standpoint. Then, we finally decided to make it public this weekend."

(On if Jensen playing in the Wild Card game last year gave the team a false sense of hope that he might play again soon)

"We had optimism, but the medical staff always warned us that it would be touch-and-go from that standpoint – we weren't too high or too low from that standpoint because they always warned us that it can go the other way."

(On if he's pleased with the team's rushing attack so far)

"Hopefully that continues through the season. We know they didn't have their first guys out there, but it was good to see them get going and getting on the right guy and having some continuity from that standpoint and we can build on it. Any time something is not working the year before, you try to fix it and get it better. Last night was a positive sign."

(On when roster moves will be made to get down to the 53-man roster)

"We're going to meet this afternoon – early this afternoon, actually, right after this. Maybe some of the obvious guys, we may do something today – the rest of the guys, we'll probably wait. It'll be like a two-and-a-half-day process for us. We'll still meet and go over things, some decisions we have to make and some guys we try to get to the practice squad. It may start today. We'll see how meetings go. If not, definitely tomorrow."

(On if DB Christian Izien won the starting nickel job)

"Yes, he has."

(On if anyone that was competing for a job impressed him last night)

"I thought everybody kind of showed consistently what they've been showing through the past couple weeks. The guys that [have] played well continued to play well, the guys that were kind of not playing well didn't play as well. We've got some tough decisions to make, regardless, because there's a couple guys right there on the bubble."

(On if the team will look for help at the center position elsewhere)

"If there's something there that we like. We like the guys we have right now. It's hard to put ready-made starters out on the street for any team. We'll be looking on the waiver wire for kind of everything to bolster our roster from that standpoint. If something comes available, we'll definitely look at it at center."

(On if there will be more undrafted rookies making this team than any team he's coached previously)

"Yes, it will be. It will be by far. You know the draft picks have a good chance of sticking, but there [are] quite a few free agents that will make this team."

(On if he knows approximately how many undrafted free agents might stick around)

"Not at this time. I'll better be able to tell you tomorrow."

(On how he feels about having QB Kyle Trask as the No. 2 on the depth chart given how he's played this preseason)

"We're very excited about Kyle. We like the things he's been doing. The growth has been phenomenal, coming in this year and playing a lot and getting all the experience. We're very comfortable if something happens to Baker [Mayfield] that Kyle can come in and play."
