Tampa Bay Buccaneers

3 Stars of the Game Against the Cardinals in Week 13

A look at three standout performances against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13

3 Stars Week 13

Chris Godwin Jr.

After being on a pitch count against the Rams, Chris Godwin Jr. had an increased workload against the Cardinals in Week 13. He led Tampa Bay in receiving yards on Sunday, bringing in three catches for 78 yards. After missing the second half of the 2024 season due to injury, Godwin's 78 receiving yards marked his most in a contest since Week Six of the 2024 season against the New Orleans Saints. Godwin showcased his yards-after-catch ability, including a third-down conversion on the Bucs' first drive that should have resulted in a gain short of the sticks. Baker Mayfield evaded Budda Baker, stepped up and threw on the move to Godwin, who broke another tackle with a stiff arm. His longest play of the day came in the second quarter, bringing the Bucs to first and goal after a pickup of 31 yards. Godwin navigated traffic off the release to come across the field and Mayfield lobbed a bomb, connecting with the slot weapon.

Bucky Irving

Bucky Irving led the Bucs in scrimmage yards in his first game back since being injured in Week Four. He contributed 81 yards from scrimmage with 17 carries for 61 yards including one score and two catches for 20 yards. His rushing touchdown marked his first of the season, and his third overall scrimmage touchdown on the year. With his 81 scrimmage yards on Sunday, Irving eclipsed the 2,000 scrimmage yards milestone in the 22nd game of his career. Irving consistently put the Bucs in favorable down and distance, generating additional yards off lethal jump cuts. In the fourth quarter off a swing pass, Irving reversed the field, identified the pursuit and the Cardinals' angles/leverage, and picked up four yards to set up the Chase McLaughlin field goal. He generated a surge, whether through dirty runs between the tackles or instant acceleration to attack the edge. Irving showed his panoramic vision and left the Cardinals' defense stunned with his theatrics. He nabbed a touchdown in the third quarter, exploding for a 13-yard run to give the Bucs a substantial 17-3 lead.

Tristan Wirfs

Left tackle Tristan Wirfs brought in a two-yard receiving touchdown from Baker Mayfield, marking his first career reception and his first touchdown. Wirfs became the fifth offensive lineman in franchise history to record a touchdown reception, joining Leonard Wester, Donald Penn, Randall McDaniel and Ron Heller. He is the first offensive lineman in the NFL to record a touchdown catch in 2025, sending the Bucs' sideline into animated cheers of delight. The Bucs had repped the play in practice several times and once Arizona safety Budda Baker went the opposite direction of the design, the script was set in motion. Wirfs sold the chip and then released, sneaking out to the right into the end zone and as he backpedaled, Mayfield delivered a dart to No.78. The athletic specimen provided the Bucs with momentum and anchored the line in Week 13.
