Buccaneers Select Quotes: Friday, November 30, 2018

Below is a selection of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quotes from today's earlier media availability. Full video of press conferences can be found on Buccaneers.com.

Head Coach Dirk Koetter

(On if wide receiver DeSean Jackson was able to catch with the wrap on his hand)

"No."

(On if Jackson will be active on Sunday)

"I'm not sure past this week, but DeSean will be out this week."

(On if wide receiver Justin Watson will have an opportunity to get more reps)

"Sure. It's hard to go into a game with less than five wideouts. Anybody past Mike [Evans], Chris [Godwin] and Hump (Adam Humphries), who up is going to be in the mix."

(On the reason quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick connected better with Jackson)

"If you're referring to last week, we had eight targets to DeSean last week. He had three catches. We had DeSean open five other times and we didn't get the ball to him. We left a lot of yardage on the table when it came to just Desean on routes that were designed to go to him or where the coverage dictated where it went. I met with both DeSean and Jameis [Winston]. We watched those plays and went through them. Each one of them is a little bit different, but bottom line is we had him open and didn't hit him."

(On if running back Ronald Jones will play on Sunday)

"Ronald will be up this week. As far as role, we'll see on Sunday."

(On if he watched film with Winston and Jackson separately)

"No, together. We went through the tape on the targets to DeSean where we missed him. You know, you're trying to find common ground."

(On if he would use a safety at nickelback)

"Well, you've got to do what you've got to do. On game day you've got 46, so we've got to figure it out. Based on who's up on Sunday, we'll have a plan ready."

(On what Coach Duffner has done to help the production of the defense)

"I just think that [it's] a group effort – players and staff. Players make everything go. We have played better on defense. We've gotten more pressure. We've said all along, more pressure leads to better pass coverage and it should eventually lead to more turnovers – it did last week. The 20 sacks or whatever it is in the last six games – we haven't been quite as good the last few weeks stopping the run, but we've been much better on third down and better pressuring the quarterback. Again, this is a passing league so I think that's the main thing. I think they've done a good job of changing it up. We've used multiple personnel groups and multiple rush patterns. Then it goes back to the players. JPP (Jason Pierre-Paul) and Carl Nassib off the edge. Vita [Vea] had his best game last week. Gerald [McCoy] has been consistent as ever inside and all the rest. Everybody contributing. Getting Lavonte [David] back this week will also be a big plus I think."

(On if the team allowing more rushing yards is connected to Lavonte David and Justin Evans being injured)

"You can make the case for that. Everything is different, but whoever you've got up – that's who you've got that day. We've had a lot of moving parts on defense this year. When you look at the guys who have been out of the lineup – I think we've had as many as six starters out in a game. That gives other guys opportunities, but at the same time that doesn't promote continuity. One thing I do know is whoever's up is going to give us everything they've got as they have all year."

(On how many cornerbacks there are)

"We're down there a little bit. We'll see how it sorts out on Sunday. Whoever is going to be out there is going to be competing."
