TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 9-22-25

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On if there's an update on the status of WR Mike Evans)

"Not yet. He's going to get an MRI tomorrow. Right now, they're deeming it as low grade, but we'll see when it comes out."

(On the specifics of Evans' injury, as he appeared to just pull up on his own)

"Yeah, that's exactly what happened. He felt something, so he came off."

(On if he has any specific expectations or plans for WR Chris Godwin Jr. and T Tristan Wirfs this week)

"They started practicing last week. We've got to see the progression of how they handle everything, and then we'll make that decision at the end of the week."

(On how much the team practices two-minute drills during the week)

"It was a ton during camp and during the summer, and we probably get to it every Thursday, as well. So, we've spent a lot of time on it from the spring until now."

(On if there's an update on the status of DB Christian Izien)

"Not yet. He's sore, and we'll see how he is during the week."

(On if he can identify the reason for the struggles from special teams unit to start the season)

"We're playing with a lot of different guys every week, especially on the field-goal team. You lose your entire offensive line, pretty much, you're playing with new guys each week at different spots. So, that's going to take some work to get everybody on the same page. We've just got to be sharper there."

(On if OL Dan Feeney and other newcomers will have the chance to get acclimated and start contributing)

"Yeah, they can. I think Feeney has a chance to catch up because he's been in the league for a while. It's just a terminology thing and him getting used to how we want things, but he's been practicing when he was up in Buffalo. So, the physical part won't be hard – it'll be more of the mental. As far as the [defensive] linemen, with [Elijah] Simmons coming in, he's learned some things [and] he's got some more things to learn. So, we've got to kind of put him on a pitch count there and see what we want to do with them – as with the rest of the guys coming in here. The more guys get hurt, the sooner they have to play, so we've got to get them up to speed pretty fast."

(On what his conversations with QB Baker Mayfield are like considering the injuries that the team has sustained so far)

"I mean, it's 100% positive. I don't think it affects him…At least, you're not going to say [that]. It's going to affect play-calling and 'Grizz' (Offensive Coordinator Josh Grizzard) play-calling-wise because they all do different things. So, we've got to make sure we're on top of it offensively, making sure our guys can do what they made the team to do. You're not going to get guys that can do things that Tristan [Wirfs] can do, or do what Luke [Goedeke] can do, or even do what Cody [Mauch] can do. So, we've got to make sure the run and the pass plays marry up with what the guys do well."

(On OLB Yaya Diaby leading the NFL in quarterback pressures in Week 3, and if he expects more sacks from Diaby this season)

"He'll play hard. The pressures are the big thing. Sacks are hard, depending on how long the quarterback holds the football. You can't put a price on sacks when you're getting a lot of pressure. Sometimes you get there, sometimes you don't, and you still have a heck of a rush. That's just part of it. He's just got to keep continuing to hone his craft and get better, and the sacks will come."

(On if the defense has more playmakers this season compared to last year)

"I think we have more athletic playmakers in that regard, where don't have to rely on just 'Win' (Antoine Winfield Jr.) and Lavonte [David]. We've got other guys that can make plays doing other things. So, that allows everybody to play their position and not peek outside the box."

(On utilizing a heavy blitz rate in the first half against the New York Jets, and whether they deviated from that in the second half)

"No. I thought we missed more tackles as they got five-yard checkdowns. I thought we got tired, and the heat index got to us a little bit, and I thought it showed on one of those drives."

(On what it takes to put four quarters together on defense)

"It takes time. You've got to get used to the grind. It's three weeks in – we've got about two more weeks to get used to the grind. We've got to put four quarters together. As the schedule goes, it gets tougher every week. We've got to make sure we don't make those mistakes."

(On if there's an update on the status of OL Michael Jordan)

"He's just got a sore knee – a sprain – when he feels better, we'll get him out on the field."

(On the job that Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach Kevin Carberry and Offensive Line Coach Brian Picucci have done this season)

"They've done a great job mixing and matching guys, plugging new guys in, plugging in guys from the practice squad, moving guys to different positions, and getting them to play on Sunday. That's a full-time job. Believe me, those two guys have done a hell of a job getting those guys ready to play. For us to be 3-0 is a big credit to them."

(On the offensive line's performance against Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams)

"He's a stud player. He's still one of the best in the league, and he made his plays, but those guys battled him."

(On what the offensive line would look like when T Tristan Wirfs returns)

"That'll be a big discussion depending on how he's moving this week, depending on what side he's moving better on. If he has a side he's moving better on, then who played guard better…[They are] discussions we've got to have in the next day or so."

(On the game plan that Offensive Coordinator Josh Grizzard put together for the game against the Jets, given the team's injuries and the Jets defensive front)

"I don't know if it was just crafting something, or, you know, we had five holding calls in the first 13 plays…That's tough to overcome as well, so you better start getting the ball out of your hands in that regard, and we've got to do a better job there. But the game plan was such that we could use some things and craft it toward what those guys can do well, despite the holding calls, and I really thought they battled."

(On WR Emeka Egbuka's start to the season, and if Bowles has ever seen a rookie come in and start contributing the way he has)

"Right now, we don't even consider him a rookie. He's been doing it so much in practice, and [with] the details of his work, that we had kind of expected it from him here in the building. I think outside, everybody's seeing it for the first time. It's a little early for Rookie-of-the-Year type of things [but] if he can do that for 16 or 17 weeks, we'll be happy."

(On whether he thought Egbuka's catch late in the game that was ruled incomplete was called correctly)

"There are going to be some calls that go our way, some calls that don't go our way. I thought he caught it."

(On what he thought when he saw WR Mike Evans get hurt)

"I mean, I was just hoping he was all right, but we're trying to win the game. The next man up had to come in and play, and then you see how serious it is after the game."

(On the Buccaneers going 0-3 when Evans was hurt last year)

"I don't know if you can replace him. Other guys can do other things, and we'll try to tailor it toward those things, but you can't replace a Mike Evans."

(On if Evans' hamstring injury last year will alter how the team handles his recovery this year)

"We proceeded with caution last go-around. I don't think it's a 'this go-around' thing. It's a matter of how he's feeling. If he's feeling well and 100%, he'll play; if he's not, he won't."

(On facing the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles this weekend)

"I mean, they're battle-tested. Like I said, they won the Super Bowl – that's where we're trying to get to. We know they're a quality team coming in here. We think we're a quality team they're going to play. So, we've just got to limit our mistakes and focus on us right now. It's a big game four – that's all it is, it's a big game four. It's not going to break us and it's not going to make us if we win. At the same time, it's a quality opponent coming in here that we can test ourselves against and see where we are."

(On the team reportedly bringing in NT Desmond Watson for a workout last week)

"He had a good workout. We'll see where he is for signing him from that standpoint, but we'll never bring him in just to stop a tush push. If we've got to bring in a guy to stop one play and the tush push never comes up, you're wasting your time. If we bring him in, we think he can play, not just for a Philadelphia thing. It's very unlikely he'd be ready to play, once we bring him in, for Philadelphia right now anyway. It's just a matter of us making room and seeing if we have a place for him, and then what we see for him in the future."

(On whether the tush push should stay legal)

"I'm a fan of creativity. I think if somebody crafts something and they do it well and it's within the rules, it's up to the other side of the ball to stop them, whether it's offensively or defensively. They have something they do very well. I think Buffalo is the only other team that can do that well. If everyone else could do it, everybody would be doing it. So, it's a challenge for all the defensive coaches to try to stop it, and that'll include me."

(On CB Benjamin Morrison's performance through his first two games)

"I thought he made great strides from last week to this week. I thought he really played more under control. I thought he played calmer. I thought he went through all of his assignments, he went through all his reads, he made some plays for us. I think he's settling in nicely. I really think that's going well."

(On Morrison rotating in for CB Jamel Dean, and Dean's pick six against the Jets)

"Jamel is our starter. He can go out there and make plays, but we've got to get Benjamin some plays, and he's going to play for us as well. So, we've got a three-corner rotation going right now. We've got [Jacob] Parrish getting some reps at nickel [cornerback] as well. We've got a bunch of guys that can help us play, so if someone goes down, we have that next guy already playing."

OUTSIDE LINEBACKER YAYA DIABY

(On what he saw off the edge in Sunday's win over the New York Jets to generate a lot of pressure)

"As the game was going on, I started to feel really good with the matchup – knowing what he was giving me, I was getting past him the way I wanted. As the game was going on, I was feeling good, and I just kept getting closer and closer [to a sack]."

(On if the defense is starting to settle into a groove going into Week 4)

"Yeah, we are looking really good, but it is always the ending, man. I feel like we can better ourselves at the ending point to not put ourselves in a position to have to fight for the last two minutes -- last 50 seconds. Overall, we are on the right path, and we are doing things the right way. We are coming along as a brotherhood, so it feels good."

(On how he thought DL Elijah Roberts performed after stepping into a larger role on the defense)

"He is picking it up really [well]. I was watching film, and I just kept seeing little glimpses of him making good plays and getting to the quarterback's face. I feel like the more reps he gets -- the more comfortable he gets -- the more plays he is going to make."

(On what makes pass rushing QB Jalen Hurts tough, and what he has learned about him from their previous matchup last season)

"He is really good. He can step forward, he can run left [and] right. Some right-handed quarterbacks, they can only [scramble] right, but he can go left, he can go through the middle, he can go right -- he can go everywhere. For us, we just have to go in with a great pass rush plan and keep him in that pocket and getting a whole lot of guys in his face, and I feel like we will be fine."

(On having a quarterback like Baker Mayfield being able to close out games at the end)

"Man, it is just something about Baker [Mayfield]. When you sit there like, 'Dang man, what can this game become,' and you just see Baker make a crazy play. It is just so exciting to have a guy like that who has that fire in him, and [that] just makes the whole team better and the whole team have that hunger and want to fight for each other."

(On rookie WR Emeka Egbuka's performance through the first three games)

"He is doing a great job, man. That one-handed catch, I was just like, 'Woah, [there is] no way he just caught that.' He is just coming along really [well]. I see him and Baker [Mayfield] getting along really [well] and I am just excited for where he is going to go as the season keeps going along."
