Becht Breaks Down TB-WAS

The Buccaneers got their second win of the season on Sunday beating the Washington Redskins 27-7. Dominating play by the defense and an aerial assault from the offense led the way for the Bucs. My thoughts of the game can best be described by looking at the numbers.

**

6Sacks by the defensive line, led by DE Jacquies Smith who had two. The Buccaneers put pressure on Robert Griffin III all game long with McCoy, McDonald and Johnson also getting in on the action, shredding the porous Redskins offensive line to take down RGIII.209Receiving yards by WR Mike Evans, who posted a career day and continues to shine as the Bucs top receiver. He became the youngest player in NFL history to post a 200-yard receiving game. Evans is proving each week why he should be the Offensive Rookie of the Year.3Turnovers forced by the defense, one of them returned for a touchdown. The lack of turnovers forced by the Buccaneers defense this season has been a big reason for the struggles they've been facing week to week. On Sunday, they quickly changed that by forcing two interceptions and a fumble. The Lovie Smith defense is built on creating turnovers and the Bucs took a step forward yesterday by being in the right spots and executing the scheme.55Seconds is the amount of time it took the Redskins to put together their only scoring drive of the entire game. The drive came at the close of the first half but besides that, the defense either forced errors or quickly got off the field for the offense to go back to work. From top to bottom, this was the best Bucs defensive performance of the season.0Turnovers from Josh McCown, who took care of the football and managed the game against Washington from the first snap to the last. Although he wasn't brought here to put up Manning- like passing numbers, he dropped dimes all over the field Sunday, carving up the Redskins defense with precision accuracy and excellent downfield throws.11** Buccaneers penalties. Even in a win, the coach will always finds areas to improve, and although they didn't hurt the team this game, the Bucs' 11 penalties will be a point of emphasis in the coming week. In a tight game, penalties could spell the difference between winning and losing. Good teams don't beat themselves and the Bucs still need to improve in this area.

Overall, this was a win that this Buccaneers team desperately needed. They get to enjoy it for 24 hours before turning the page to the Chicago Bears. Both wins this year have been on the road so another road game against the Bears might be just what this team needs to put a small winning streak together.
