Buccaneers Transcript: Head Coach Bruce Arians - Monday, July 29, 2019

Head Coach Bruce Arians

(Opening statement)

"Oh, damn good day good day of work – I loved the tempo. Both sides won a bunch – I would've liked to have seen Matt (Gay) make that last kick. I want to stretch him out like that, especially for a rookie. But overall, I was very pleased. The ebb-and-flow of practice was outstanding."

(On if third-and-short and fourth-and-short have become passing downs in the modern NFL)

"Not really – when you look at the really good teams, that down and distance is pretty balanced on their sheet."

(On if he made an assessment on G Alex Cappa's day at practice)

"No, I can't see lineman. You've got to watch the tape for that stuff."

(On if there are any injuries to T Demar Dotson, TE Cam Brate or DL Ndamukong Suh)

"No, just veteran days off."

(On the amount nickel defense used at practice)

"It's a match up thing."

(On if he has ever had this amount of size at the tight end position)

"I've had size between Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth – but not the overall. Heath Miller is one of the best I've ever seen. But, this is a good, solid tight end group."

(On S Mike Edwards' interception)

"Griff (Ryan Griffin) stared that thing down, and I saw him coming, and I said, 'That's picked.' He's got great instincts, and he's a ball hawk.

(On how he feels about the weather)

"Well we could've gone out about halfway through, but I said, 'To hell with it, let's stay in here.' I'm tired of going in and out. So, we'll just keep it because we are going to play at four o'clock."

(On if the offense or defense typically starts out ahead of the other unit during training camp)

"Yeah, when you put the pads on it's usually the defense. The passing game sometimes, but usually it's the defense. I thought today the offense bounced back really, really well. There were a lot of really good plays out there."

(On the thought of TE O.J. Howard lining up as a wide receiver)

"OJ at wide receiver? No, he's a tight end. He splits out. He ran an average route one time and it got broken up, but he's learning. He's learning what we're looking for out there."
