BUCCANEERS MAKE ROSTER MOVES 11-29-22

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today activated cornerback Anthony Chesley to the practice squad from Injured Reserve and signed linebacker J.J. Russell to the practice squad.

Chesley (6-0, 190) was signed to Tampa Bay's practice squad on Sept. 1, 2022, where he has spent the entirety of the 2022 season. He was elevated for Weeks 6-7 before being placed on practice squad Injured Reserve on Oct. 27. He originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals on May 10, 2019. He has appeared 14 career games over three seasons between the Houston Texans (2020), Indianapolis Colts (2021) and Buccaneers (2022), totaling five tackles and one fumble recovery, in addition to two special teams tackles. The Temple Hills, Maryland, native played four collegiate seasons at Coastal Carolina (2015-18), appearing in 42 career games. He was the only junior voted as a team captain for the 2017 season.

Russell (6-1, 225) entered the league as a college free agent with the Buccaneers on May 13, 2022 and has spent the 2022 season between Tampa Bay's active roster and the practice squad, appearing in two games. Russell played five seasons at Memphis (2017-21), starting 50-of-61 games for the Tigers and compiling 306 tackles (24 for loss), eight passes defensed, 5.0 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and one blocked kick. The Grenada, Mississippi, native was named first-team All-AAC (American Athletic Conference) in 2021 after leading the AAC in solo tackles per game (6.5) and total tackles per game (10.2), which ranked fourth and ninth in the nation, respectively.

In addition, the Buccaneers waived defensive tackle Khalil Davis and cornerback Quandre Mosely from the practice squad.
