TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 7-25-25

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On if the offense scored a touchdown on the final play of practice on Friday)

"No, our equipment guys said he was out, so he was out."

(On if the offense scored a touchdown on the final play of practice on Friday)

"It was great competition on both sides. Like I said, you can get a lot done out of pads without knowing who won, because [of] whether it's a sack or a touchdown, or a PBU or a holding call that you're not calling…The competition was good, the spirit was good. Understanding situations is something that we're trying to learn from, and it's pretty good there. There's a lot to teach on tape."

(On the biggest adjustment for DB Tykee Smith as he practices at safety)

"I don't think it's an adjustment for him because he's played it. He came out of high school playing it, he played it some in college. It's not a big adjustment for him at all – just looking at different angles. He played some safety at Georgia. It's just looking at it from different angles for him. He's been great the last three days."

(On if one side of the ball tends to perform better at the beginning of training camp)

"I don't think so. It looks like that because we're out of pads. The offensive linemen can't block the way they want to. Obviously, you can't run as many stunts and gains on defense as you'd want to because you're out of pads. It's going to look a little different. It's t-shirts and shorts football. I don't call it that one side of the ball has an advantage over the other at all until we get in pads and we really start playing. A lot of it is skewed right now. It's kind of flag football at this point."

(On if NT Vita Vea had a specific workout program in the offseason)

"He always works out with [Ndamukong] Suh, but he works out here, too. Suh is a big credit – Suh helps him a great deal. He came back in great shape, he looks really good, and we're happy where he's at."

(On S Shilo Sanders' start to training camp)

"He's picking up the playbook [really] well. It was a good PBU. We want interceptions, [but] it was a good PBU. He made a play. He's working to get better. That's all we can ask of him."

(On what he's seen from rookie WRs Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson)

"Emeka looked really sharp today running routes. It wasn't even so much the catches – he was crisp in his route running, coming out of breaks. He's really starting to settle down and blend in. He's a very smart guy – Tez [Johnson] as well. They play fast when they know what they're doing. Tez is learning the system very well, and I'm just happy to see them keep progressing."

(On LB David Walker leaving practice early, and if he has any idea what the injury was)

"Not yet, I've got to see it when I go inside."

(On what Defensive Line Coach Charlie Strong has brought to the team)

"Charlie is very smart. He brings a different approach. Working technique and hands is something that we're trying to work on. Our pass rush is something we're really trying to work on and he brings a wealth of experience there. I think the guys are adapting to it pretty [well]. I'm really excited about what he's doing."

(On if he's excited to see players practicing in pads)

"I'm excited to see us progress to pads and see if we can put the fundamentals and technique out of pads into pads. It's always great, but we've got another day of practice without them. We'll wait for Monday."

RUNNING BACK BUCKY IRVING

(On the difference of training camp as a rookie to now)

"I [would] pretty much say the difference is being able to know what to expect. When you come here as a rookie, your head is spinning everywhere, you're trying to figure things out, learn from the older guys in front of you. I'm still leaning on the guys in my [running back] room, Sean [Tucker], Rachaad [White], all of those guys. We're leaning on one another – keep getting better each and every day, not taking this game for granted and go out there and compete hard each and every day."

(On having his former roommate WR Tez Johnson on the Buccaneers)

"It's been great. It's a blessing, like I said going back that's a guy that works hard every day. I love him to death and seeing him go out there and compete at a high level – because I know what he wants out of this. Being able to go out there and compete with him is a blessing."

(On RB Josh Williams)
"Josh is a great guy. He's willing to learn, he's willing to learn, he's always asking questions to get better. [An] explosive [running] back, can make you miss on the second level. Being able to add that in our [running back] room is fantastic."

(On offseason training with QB Baker Mayfield and WR Jalen McMillan)
"Being able to stay in Tampa and train – stay in the heat but being able to be around your guys and know what we're working for. Being able to work together, that's always a blessing but being able to attack each and every day, every morning, we know that we can't just sit around and not work. Once you work in the dark, good things come to the light. Being able to go to work with those guys each and every day, knowing that when we go out there and train on a weekday, knowing that when we come back in this building it's time to go."

(On viewing himself as more than a running back)

"You have different kinds of running backs that [will] be in the game for different types of situations. Everybody is different, every [running] back is different. When you get in the game, you just have to know what your technique is and what drives your game when you're at your best and use that as pressure."

SAFETY ANTOINE WINFIELD JR.

(On how he has felt through training camp)

"Yeah, I am feeling good. Body feels good, I'm flying around, and just having fun. It is about coming out here, putting the work in, and having fun with it."

(On starting training camp and making splash plays)

"I just have to continue to build off that. I have to make at least one splash play a day because when it comes to game time, that is what I am going to be trying to do the whole time. So, you just have to continue to make those splash plays."

(On his feelings about the secondary group)

"We are in the same room now, so we are able to have better communication that way. CB Bryce [Hall] has been balling, he is the comeback [route] merchant. I mean, he has probably had two pick-sixes already. He has been doing a great job. The rookies are great too. They are picking up the system still, but it is just about bringing them along, and just carrying them, and letting them know they have to put that work in. I know it is hot out here, so make sure you hydrate. But they have been doing a great job coming out here and executing."

(On S Tykee Smith)

"You know, he played a lot of nickel last year, but nickel and safety are pretty much the same thing, it is just he is in the middle of the field a little bit more. He is good at it, he is used to it, so it is nothing new. We sit right next to each other, so we are always talking to each other, talking about disguises or ways that we can make a play, or he can make a play. We always bounce that stuff off each other."

(On the speed of the game)
"You know a lot of people always ask me, 'What is the difference between college and the pros?' I always say the speed of the game is a little bit better and obviously going against better athletes. But once you get used to it, and you have been in the system, and you know what the speed is like, then it is the same transition from high school to college as college to pros."

(On WR Emeka Egbuka and WR Tez Johnson's speed)

"Quick guys, quick guys. It is tough in space too, very shifty, and they are quick and elusive."

(On WR Tez Johnson's touchdown during practice)
"It is exciting to see, because he is my teammate, so you can look forward to seeing that on Sundays. But it is also work for us too. It makes us better as well, getting put in those positions. It is all work when we are working with each other and getting each other better."

(On getting advice from his father, Antoine Winfield Sr.)

"No, there are still some things he critiques me about. But, over the years, it has gone down less and less."

(On the defense's energy compared to last year)

"I think we are more hungry this year, I would say. Obviously, every year you want to come hungry, but we know we are so close to putting everything together. I really think it is setting the standard early, like, we can do this. We have all the tools that we need. It is just about putting all the right things together at the right time and staying healthy. I think we are just hungrier this year."

(On coming back better than last year)
"Like I said, we are always in the position to do it, it is just about putting it together at the right time. That starts in camp. It started in OTAs, and it started in minicamp. It is just making sure that is the standard, and that we can actually do this thing if we can put it all together."

(On playing football in the heat)

"I am just having fun. It is football for me. This is a child's game, and I get to play it at this level. We get to have fun and play football. If I have energy, it is just because I love doing what I get to do."

SAFETY TYKEE SMITH

(On how he is feeling through the first few days of training camp)

"Through the first two days I feel like camp is going well, I am feeling good. [I am] still trying to get my feet underneath myself and learn a new position. That has been interesting, but everything else is going well."

(On the secondary playing well in training camp)

"That has been the biggest thing [Head] Coach [Todd] Bowles has been appreciative of is trying to get as many turnovers as possible. So, I think have been doing a good job of preaching and trying to put emphasis on that."

(On the difference between playing safety in college versus the NFL)

"Being able to communicate before pre-snap, and then just being more physical in the defense you are in. So, for me it has been a real blessing playing next to S [Antoine] Winfield [Jr.]. Basically, just being able to learn from him and communicate with him, talking with him through it during the pre-snap. That has been really helpful through the process."

(On his impression of the rookie cornerbacks)

"I think the way they have been carrying themselves. They are going to be able to make an impact for us. I am really looking forward to the season and the ways they can make an impact for us."

(On playing against WR Emeka Egbuka)

"[He is] a really polished receiver, really smooth in what he does. That has been the biggest thing, just him coming in and learning the system really fast. I think he can be really productive. And WR Tez [Johnson] is quick and shifty, so you do not want to see him in space because he can make you miss in a phone booth."

(On the live scrimmages during practice)
"You cannot come out here without having fun. So that has been the biggest thing is trying to push each other. When it is go time to go against each other, we all know the standard. Everybody is trying to uphold that standard and play towards expectations."

(On improving the communication in the secondary)
"Us meeting together and being on the same page, knowing what to expect, and talking through it during pre-snap as we get into the call. Basically knowing what can hurt us and what we are in – just knowing what to communicate about what is going on."

(On having a similar style of play as S Antoine Winfield Jr.)
"That has been a blessing, for us to be doing similar things. That has been a blessing not being able to just contain one of us. We always have to hold it down and get a block and blitz too. That has been a blessing, [that] we have been similar in playstyle together."

(On how much the secondary room has helped him develop)
"That has helped me a lot, just meeting together. So, meeting with the cornerbacks, and playing nickel made the change to safety a little bit easier. Knowing what everybody is doing, what calls to make, what could hurt us, and just trying to put everybody in the best situation possible for me at safety."
