HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
(On if there's an update on the status of RB Rachaad White)
"He does have a groin. We're going to run some tests today, so I'll be able to tell you probably more tomorrow."
(On the performances of linebackers Nick Jackson and John Bullock, and their chances to make the roster)
"I thought they both played with a lot of poise. Obviously, Nick makes some plays – a sack and interception – but I thought Bullock played very well, too. Bullock got a tip for the interception. I've got to really see how they played on special teams – that'll be big for them going forward. The veterans we signed are probably going to be here, and we're looking for a young guy to keep and bring along too, as well as possibly one for the practice squad. I thought those guys had a good showing for the first time out."
(On how he thought the undrafted rookies on defense played on Saturday)
"I thought they did a good job. They competed and they played like they've been there before. It wasn't too big for them. They played like they practiced, they understood their assignments, and they made plays. That was good to see."
(On OLB Chris Braswell Jr.'s performance)
"No disappointment at all. We thought he was very physical at the point of attack. We thought he got off the ball some, and the ball was coming out quick. One or two of his rushes could be more speed-to-power, but everything else he did was good. We were pleased with his performance."
(On the team's offensive red zone possessions having multiple penalties)
"It was execution – just over-aggression of blocking as far as finishing the blocks that we emphasize, and we got the holding penalty that called two of them back. The effort was great, the initial blocks were great, and then just trying to finish the blocks hung on a little bit too long. We can clean that up."
(On P Riley Dixon's performance)
"He's been great all [training] camp for us – spring and summer – so in the game, he did a heck of a job pinning them back there and getting some balls out of there. We look for him to be a weapon for us this year."
(On whether any offensive linemen stood out)
"As a group, they did a very good job. They did a very good job finishing it out and running the ball. 'Grizz' (Josh Grizzard) gave it to them to try to finish the game out and take time off the clock, and those guys did a great job. Obviously, the penalties in the red zone didn't help us, but for the most part, those guys grinded out and got a lot of play and a lot of time in. We're still sorting out who stood out and who had 'M.E.s' (mental errors) and all that stuff, but as a group, they did a good job."
(On when injured receivers Kam Johnson, Tez Johnson, and Trey Palmer might return)
"I don't know yet for sure. We'd like to see them all this week. We'll see how their injuries show up."
(On if any of LT Tristan Wirfs, WR Chris Godwin Jr., LB Anthony Walker Jr., QB Michael Pratt, or NT Desmond Watson might return soon)
"Walker is close."
(On what type of injury Anthony Walker Jr. sustained)
"Lower leg injury."
(On OL Elijah Klein's performance as second-string center)
"Elijah is tough, and he's tough mentally. His whole thing is getting technique and fundamentals down. If he can keep his contact balance, he's going to be a tough guy to deal with. Going back from guard and center swaps, he's a tough player. He came back and kind of changed his body and really came back in shape. We're just looking for him to clean up the little things."
(On T Ben Chukwuma's performance)
"We know he's extremely strong and athletic. We thought he did a very good job doing a lot of things. When he gets it right, he does a lot of things well. He's still a work in progress in some other things, but everything out there that we saw last night, we liked."
(On what RB Sean Tucker brings to the running back room)
"Sean brings us another explosive runner. He's a game breaker for us. He's got very good contact balance, he can break a lot of tackles, and he can naturally find holes. He's very fast, but he looks so smooth doing it that you can't really tell until he gets out in the open field, and then he's tough to bring down. He has great vision, and every opportunity he's gotten, he's shown. Like I keep telling the guys on offense, we've got to give him the ball more."
(On RB Owen Wright's performance after joining the team a week ago)
"He's a good inside runner, and I thought those guys did a good job – the tight ends did a good job blocking between Ko Kieft and Tanner [Taula] and Payne [Durham]. All those guys did a very good job blocking for him on the edge. We had some runs in there, like I said, that second and third group that went in there really were coming around the corner hitting people, and it was making it easy for them."
(On WR Garrett Greene's performance)
"I think the transition has been really [good] for him. He's got a lot of things to learn from a fundamental technique standpoint for the position, but he's very fast, very quick, very tough, and he has very good hands. He's somebody we love working with and that we'd like to keep around if we could. He showed very good skill as a punt returner, which we didn't know he had. We knew he could catch it, we knew he could run with it, but he's a guy that's growing every day and can do some things that we really like."
(On whether RB Josh Williams will be able to return soon or if they may need to sign someone)
"We'll find out tomorrow morning. Josh has been working out. We need him to get back because we're very short in that area. If he can't, we may have to sign somebody."
(On whether QB Teddy Bridgewater will play in preseason game two)
"We'll see by the practice reps and the reps he gets against the Steelers, how much he grasps. We'd like to get him in game two. If not, we'd like to have him ready to play a lot of game three."
(On whether any injured players might be able to return this week)
"Not until I see them out there practicing."
