TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 9-9-22

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On the key takeaways from last year's season-opener against Dallas)

"Definitely penalties, we had 11 of them – and turning the ball over, we had four [turnovers]. So, between 11 penalties and four turnovers we were lucky to win that ballgame."

(On if there is any advantage or disadvantage to playing the late game on Sunday)

"No, I don't think so. It's opening day. You're not going to know what anybody has until they go out there. They're going to be guessing on us, we're going to be guessing on them, so we've just got to play fundamental football."

(On if any players have been ruled out for Sunday's game yet)

"Not at this moment, no."

(On if he is concerned about players getting fatigued in the second half)

"No, we got a lot of work in practice. We got good conditioning down here and it's hot down here and we practice outside for the most part. The adrenaline may drain you, but we did a pretty good job hydrating and staying in shape so hopefully that carries over."

(On how difficult it is to avoid penalties and turnovers when playing in an indoor stadium on the road)

"It's not difficult to do, you've just got to concentrate. Beginning of the year, you know a lot of flags are going to be flying; we've just got to do things the right way."

(On if he has fond memories from his years coaching with the Cowboys)

"I had a great time there. Dallas is one of my best destinations as far as organization, places to live and city everything like that. I thought Jerry [Jones] – I had a great relationship with Jerry. I think he does an outstanding job and he's a sharp owner."

(On the biggest lesson he took from coaching in Dallas)

"I miss Pappadeaux."

(On if he can order from Pappadeaux on Saturday)

"I'll be okay."

(On the reasons why G Luke Goedeke was named a starter)

"He's physical. He works hard every day. I don't think any rookie is going to polished their first time starting. There's going to be things he learns along the way. But [Antoine] Winfield has started [as a rookie], [Sean Murphy-]Bunting and [Jamel] Dean have played quite a bit, Devin [White] started day one. We've played rookies here before. We understand the things he has to learn in the pass game, but he does a lot of good things for us and we don't think he has that much to learn. He doesn't have that far to go."

(On if the new starters on the offensive line means he will keep the running back in for protection)

"It's football. You play football. Everybody's going to have new starters every year. Like I said, we play young guys every year. Once you start, the first day you start you're a rookie. The second day you start, you're not a rookie anymore. He's played quite a few days."

(On if practice squad LB Genard Avery could be elevated for Sunday's game)

"There's a chance. We have to talk about it – see what we need on [special] teams and go from there, but he's definitely a guy we're looking at."

(On if the decision on Chris Godwin's availability will be made before Sunday)

"No, it will come right up to game time right now."

(On if adding older veteran players who are chasing a Super Bowl ring gives the team an infusion of hunger)

"It's good to have, but as long as you can play. This is not an old folks' home. We're not bringing in just to bring people in, so to speak. We're bringing in talented guys that understand team ball, that know how to play football still and are great teammates. So, that helps out a lot. For those to get rings, that would be great."
