Tampa Bay Buccaneers

5 Standouts from Training Camp, August 7

A few players who impressed during the Buccaneers' training camp practice on Monday.

**

  1. S J.J. Wilcox**
It seems like the only thing keeping Wilcox from stepping in as one of the Bucs' starting safeties is time. Tampa Bay has used their new free agent as a nickel corner during training camp and on Monday, he stepped into the starting lineup alongside Chris Conte. Wilcox has an impressive play during team drills, sticking with O.J. Howard after the ball had been delivered and fighting it out of Howard's grip.

Jameis Winston has no problem throwing up a deep ball, especially if it's in the direction of DeSean Jackson. Winston tried to lob a pass to Jackson deep down the middle of the field, but Grimes wasn't having it. He batted down the pass and would later record an interception when Winston tried going Mike Evans' way.

  1. DT Clinton McDonald**
Gerald McCoy wasn't practicing on Monday – likely a veteran day – so McDonald stepped in with the starters alongside Chris Baker. McDonald, a former team captain, had a tackle for a loss on Doug Martin during team drills and helped the Buccaneers' defensive line to a strong day against the run.

4. WR Chris Godwin
It seems like Godwin is deserving of a spot on this list nearly every practice. Godwin caught a touchdown pass down the left sideline with six seconds to go in the two-minute drill. It was the Buccaneers' first touchdown during the drill since the start of camp. Godwin also caught an impressive deep ball with two defenders draped over him during team drills at the end of practice.

After the first-team offense found the end zone during the two-minute drill, Walker helped the Bucs' reserves get on the board. He caught back-to-back passes working with the backups and helped the Buccaneers march into field goal territory. He also caught an impressive ball over Johnathan Moxey during one-on-ones.
